No they can't, and I doubt they are getting worse either.

Referees (contrary to popular opinion) are human, and capable of error.

Having those mistakes pawed over in super slo-mo by partisan 'fans', none of whom have a full and forensic knowledge of the law but are desperately looking for someone to blame, is never going to end well.

True but when the FA analyse it in the the cold light of day, knowing that refs are human and make mistakes, you would hope they don't just blindly support them. So still hurts.

Very few people are so visibly demoted as referees.
They are supported by their bosses, that's hardly a crime.
