Before I read the article, I had no idea that Howard Wilkinson was now Sheffield Wednesday's chairman. When he was Leeds manager, Wilkinson, of course, saved the Albion from a winding up order in the 1990s by spending £350,000 for Mark Beeney.

I don't get this: the story said Wednesday had reached an agreement with the HMRC to pay its tax bill with Co-op Bank money. What's happened to that? Or is this an additional bill from HMRC? It's a very sloppily written story.

's.And was a right winger for the Albion in the late 60's/early 70's.

Not too exciting a player, workmanlike is more like it. Very studious, always taking his coaching badges.

HMRC probably have different offices doing different things!

I think he played on the left more often than the right. He was never great although he did score a pretty good goal against Reading in 1968 or 1969 - Powney saved a penalty that game, the first time I'd ever seen that happening.

They were in trouble in the summer and signed Mellor, Morrinson, Miller? Turned down big bids for some of there players as well. Cheats

I remember him mostly playing on the right. Wouldnt the left winger have been Brian Tawse or was he a little later.

I remember him fracturing his cheekbone in a home game - nasty injury. That aside he was always the player who came off the pitch with still clean shirt and shorts when everyone else was muddy

Def right winger, no 7. I only saw tawse in a couple of games. Dave Armstrong was the next regular left winger.

I'm sure Brian Tawse was at the club before 1969.
Didn't he have a late goal disallowed against Chelsea in the cup game in early '67 ?

Probably so but somebody said that Howard Wilkinson played about 68/69 and was left winger. I said about Tawse as I was fairly sure that at that time he was the left winger with HW on the right.

Sure this all very interesting about Brian Tawse and Wilkinson playing for us , but what the hell has it got to do with the winding up order against Sheffield Wednesday ...
And yes, i did see both of them at the Goldstone...
Surely the thread is about the possibilty, and maybe probabilty of a major football league club being wound up.
Why do we always go off at a tangent from the original thread ??
Unless £700,000 is found in the next few days , the Sheff W maybe history......domino effect then ?
Its serious

If they go bust will it mean 1 less club is relegated. Another club spending money that they dont have on players like Mellor so they deserve whatever happens to them. I will not shed a tear for them. HMRC are going to go the whole hog and make an example of somebody soon could be Wednesday.

Agreed. and as i said, it may become a domino effect if a club like Sheff W go under.....slightly more important than whether Brian Tawse or Wilkinson played on the left or right wing for us !!

Ffs when are you peddlers of doom and gloom going to realise that big football clubs have never and will never go bust? Idiots for thinking this is serious. It's barely worth mentioning.

And do you know,,,it is going to happen.
And it will wake football league clubs up to the fact that things are going to change.
Ok...tell us all how many league clubs will still be here in 5 years time...
AND if it wasnt for Tony Bloom....do you honestly think we would stiil be where we are now "
Its reality pal....not peddlers of doom...
