I think that this is all down to our fans frustration at being told a striker signing is imminent and then nothing happens for ages. It is most obviously the game being played by Gus and TB to not pay over the odds or offer high wages for players they don't consider to be worth the money, and all power to them for that approach. Hopefully it will sort itself but ees complicated said the signing of Beckford was a 3 way move like McCormack to Huddersfield Rhodes to Leicester and Beckford to us. maybe not that trio but similar, shame it didn't materialise but I am sure that something will happen shortly. As I said on another thread I think that we will get a foreign striker.

Very annoying. If Sheffield wed can bring in this sort of potential why can't we?

Do we have our sights and expectations set too high as fans?

Sheffield wed have no more of an attraction than us.

Or are they just gambling spending more £££ than they can afford.

There is obviously the quality out there. This signing leaves me very confused.

You're talking nonsense. lay off the JD eh?

Find the link between Portsmouth FC and Sheffield Wednesday and you will have the answer as to why they siged this player. Oh look its Mandaric and his ways of dealing and to live above your means

Really?! This is a serious post?!

Christ. Obviously a couple of ex-Valencia players, a former United 'keeper, and a Chelsea, City and England full-back isn't enough?! If Gus or Bloom ever took a look at some of these posts they'd have every right to jack it in.

Ridiculous.

The fact we have signed two defenders and a keeper with champions league experience is fantastic and shows how far we have come as a club and we should all be rightly proud of this. But defenders and goalkeepers don't win you games. They save you games and they keep you in games, but i've never seen a defender or a keeper score 20 goals a season yet. Strikers win games end of story, just like the game we should have won on Saturday. I think this is what the OP was getting at. I see Derby have signed Conner Sammon for the season, Forest got Cox, Leeds have about 7 strikers on so on and so on, this is a concern and a very real one.

If it is the 1st September then I would agree, however around 60% of transfers happen in the last 3 days of the window. Prem teams will have to announce their squads and that means there will be players available. Also teams will begin to panic and try to offload their extra wages before they are stuck with them for another 4 months. Thats when we will get our striker. Im certain.

There is literally no need to panic.

Yep, I think the most a keeper has ever got is about 10 goals in a season, but with Poyet's defensive tactics I doubt Kuszcak will even get near that.

Yes but by the last three days of the window, we could be 9 or more points behind our rivals. Every game is vital, three points means as much at the start of the season as it does at the end. I think tomorrow night is a big big game for us, there is a lot more at stake that three points tomorrow night. Self confidence, team spirt etc etc.

But I would much rather we waited and got the right striker for the right deal instead of paying ridiculous money now before home games against Cardiff and Barnsley (which we should get 4 points from).

It pleases me MASSIVLY that we are clearly not panicking and being sensible. You see people in this division just THROWING their money and its suicide.

This is why the window should end before the start of the season, but it doesn't so we'll just have to maybe take the hit on the points early doors.
