Ok so its highly unlikely but he wants to manage and he wont be getting the Newcastle job anytime soon, so why not sharpen his manegerial skills at the Withdean! Ha im expecting to get slated for even thinking it!

You're right about him not being Newcastle manager for a while, and for the need to cut his managerial teeth at a lower level - but not this far south, I think. If Glenn Murray (and / or his missus) feel homesick down here, well Newcastle's a bloody site further 'oop north' than Lancashire!

Also, after his ill-advised attempt to manager Newcastle last season, he can't afford another failure on his managerial cv.

I have no source of any kind, and I say Shearer is IN. :ascarf:

Whoever gets the job will only be here for a few months anyway, what does it matter who gets it?

I just get the impression he's like that. Very shrewd (bit like when he used to get bumped in the back and went down on his knees, arms out appealing. Doesn't look like a nancy boy dive but still gets the free kicks) and careful about what he does (his media image aswell ; dull as dishwater).

I think he only took on the Newcastle role because it meant he'd either be a hero for keeping them up OR wouldn't look too bad if they went down, damage already done.

Just get the feeling he'll be happy on the sofa until a big job with lots of cash comes up.

spot on, who honestly believes the next manager will last through to Falmer opening, we've thrown away two good ones out of the last 3 now without letting them really prove themselves....

What a gamble that would be let's just stick to a MANAGER with a PROVEN track record, not interested in quality players so that they can test whether they can manage or not we have too get this appointment right.

True, proven track record would be nice, but then John Gregory got villa top of the premier for 3 months and no one wants him, and Wise has a good win percentage. Still think Shearer could do a job for us, would imagine he would command respect, but not going to happen.
