Was Shearer's tackle/going for the ball, in which Bridge broke his ankle a bit reckless? or should Wayne Bridge seen it coming and got out of the way?

Paul Clark used to do this and Mullery thought it was reckless.

One test, is would you recommend a challenge like that in your own penalty area?

But the Burnley acting captain made such a challenge against Blackburn, put Dickov off and injured Dickov and himself into the bargain. ???

What is wrong with that question?

It seems anyone asks a question about football on here these days and they get shot down. What is going on?

Regards the tackle, the commentators and press have been fairly defensive to Shearer on this one as far as I can tell and as a result I'm inclined to agree that it wasn't a malicious challenge. However, it was a little clumsy but it is part of the game and you have to expect it with passionate players like Shearer.

I feel sorry for Bridge obviously and it has come at an unfortunate time for Chelsea but ultimately time will tell how it affects the premiership leaders' title run-in.

Incidentally is it indicative of English football that Chelsea's being dumped out of the cup means Mourinho will finish this season having achieved less than he did last season with only a fraction of the budget he has now? Is it a tougher domestic league or have they been genuinely unlucky? Does this now quantify Mourinho as something of a failure or was it to be expected, given the supposedly difficult nature of the English game?

What will Chelsea win this season?

It wasn't a malicious tackle but even if it had been Saint Shearer would have been forgiven. The guy is a scumbag, remember Neil Lennon and when he nearly took Cannavaro's eye out with his elbow. I hate that bloke.

What was wrong with the challenge ? It looked fair to me, and they were both going broadly in the same direction so it wasn't dangerous as opposed to say - Adam Virgo's on Saturday.

he got the ball. it was a very good tackle. just EXTREMELY unfortunate that bridge landed so awkwardly. hope his career can get back on track after this as he is a very good left back.

I don't know. When I used to play football, those time of tackles were allowed. It was half a tackle from behind, if you call it a tackle, more rightangles really.

I would have seen it coming and gotten well out of the way.

But I think it really showed that Newcastle wanted to win the game more than Chelsea. It didn't do Wayne Bridge any favours. I think Burnley wanted to more than Blackburn as well.

PS; I don't think Wayne Bridge is a very good player. I think I prefer Hinch!
