Sure, could do that. Just like it would have been possible to make Ali Mac come home and play against Charlton or have Trossard muppeteering around in the U21s for 18 months, like some suggested... The difference between Tony Bloom / co and some fans is that the former doesn't seem to be willing to treat people (often long time club servants) like shit just to get some very small competitive edge.

Oh how soon they forget. In 2018/19 Shane Duffy was our player of the season. He was also our second top scorer with 5 goals. There's a convincing argument to be made that his partnership with Dunk was one of the main reasons that we survived in the first two seasons. We didn't have the players to cope with world beaters so CH played a low block defending the centre and Duffy was brilliant at it. In 2017 and 2018 he was picked as Ireland's Senior International of the Year. As the football changed, he was less at home, but Potter sang his praises to the roof even last year when he covered for injuries at the beginning of the season scoring and challenging for MotM in a few games. Throughout the season he was a solid senior pro supporting the squad. If he never looked good enough for this divsion, it's strange that he played over 100 times for us in the EPL and was singled out for praise by both of his managers as well as quite a few pundits: https://www.sportsjoe.ie/football/shane-duffy-jamie-carragher-139909.
If he's off for good it'll be with the sincere thanks and best wishes of any sensible Brighton fan. He served this club exceptionally and played a huge role in getting us to and keeping us in this division.

That Dunk-Duffy defence formed a human shield in front of Ryan in 2018-19. Add in Dunk and Duffy's goals and those two players were practically the only reason we stayed up that season. Big Shane was IMMENSE

Sadly I think the death of his father and the breakdown of his long term relationship were the catalysts for his Albion career to hit the skids.

Saying he never looked good enough for this division is re-writing history. The Dunk and Duffy partnership was one of the key things to us staying up those first couple of seasons. They won rave reviews for their no nonsense body on the line, brick wall defending, especially in our first season. Sure he's going to struggle against some players, but you've listed 3 of the best players in the league at that time, better players than Shane Duffy struggled against them. Webster was a massive upgrade but that doesn't discount what Duffy did for us before Adam joined.
Fulham want him permanently now because they cannot get another loan player in from another Premier League unless they turn either Duffy or Dan James loan deal in a permanent deal, or cancel the deal and I'm guessing we didn't include a re-call/early termination clause in the loan agreement.

If Mac sulked, or a sulky Trossard was kept festering iin the U21s it would unsettle the squad. Not our problem if Duffy sulks - anyway, he's only got four months to tolerate the torment of sitting around on fantastic wages FFS.
Not your problem maybe... TB might see it different and be willing to make this sacrifice (= allowing Fulham to bring in a so-so full back on loan) to help a bloke who played a huge part in keeping his club in the Premier League. TB might be more grateful than you towards someone who has served the club well for a number of years.

First we had the 'lady' from the Accountants selling her story to the tabloids, with selfies of Shane asleep, whilst he was still in the long standing relationship, and then his brief but much publicised dalliance with Ms Price despite Chris Hughton and other senior figures at the club catergorically telling him to stay away.

Yup, we all saw that photo of that dimbo from Worthing that bagged the money shot of that dimbo Duffy snoring his head off in her bed. Bloke's personal life looked like a complete car crash. Big daft boy, for sure, but strangely innocent compared to some of the nasty EPL fux out there

No, ceftainly not my problem - or yours. Tony might be a generous employer, but giving an obvious and clear rival for the final European place a favour which might give them that vital advantage is foolish, not generous!
If Fulham want to buy him, even if it's for a pint and 2 packs of crisps then let the man go, He's been a good servant to the club in the past and is now surplus to requirements with a contract running down, this could be a decent deal for him probably a 2 year deal on reasonable wages before he has to drop down the leagues and reduce his wage demands dramatically. I'd say thanks and good luck to him
He served us well but it’s time to move him on. He certainly played his part in getting us to, and keeping us in, the Premier League but he has his limitations. He’s good against certain teams and styles of play but was literally left on his backside against others. And when we started to change our style he looked out of sorts. His lifestyle choices were not always the best either.

That’s like saying the death of both of Potter’s parents were the catalysts of him leaving the Albion for Chelsea. Absolutely no connection.
Potter and RDZ insist on ball-playing centre backs. Duffy is not a ball playing centre back. It’s really as simple as that.
