there was a bar on kings road very near the palace pier well above pavement height with a guy playing a piano in the window the place was as rough as a bears arse and there was always trouble there
my Mrs recons it was called Chatfields but I am sure that was at the bottom of West street and was full of right mingers

well?

Wasn't that Dr Brightons? Funny looking bloke, in a suit, with a massive head, cross eyes and glasses.

it was fairly near there and the place was always full of sailors from Pompey and I might be wrong but I am also pretty sure they had sawdust on the floor

thank you gentlemen I think you might have it
I remember passing there one night and some guy came out through the plate glass window and as the fight went on the pianist played faster just like a scene from an old cowboy film

Think Chatfields was West Street Glas. Dr Brightons had a pianist. Later they put a new round set of windows in the corner of the Queens Hotel, I remember a pianist in that window on the first floor. Sorry for the delay Rog but it got me reading my Brighton and Hove, ounce you start you can't stop.

Pretty sure it was Harrison's and was formerly part of Harrison's Hotel, which became Council offices, where I used to work. The pub was very rough and the basement was turned into a 'German beer keller' , in the late 60's. Now has a hotel on the site again.

High up on the South Downs.
I'm sure you're thinking of Harrisons. In its last year or so it became a small rock music venue. Before then there was a piano player and it was notoriously rough.

I think the Alhambra was west of the Metropole, near the Norfolk Hotel. Used to see the Albion players in there after a match on weekdays.

He had really bad cross eyes. One eye was on the way to the shops the other one was coming back with the change.
