Serious Ebay/Paypal warning

For anyone who uses Ebay with a Paypal account beware of an apparently bona-fide email from Paypal which warns you of irregular problems with your account and the need to re-activate your account or risk it being suspended.
Don't reply!
I received one today, as have two friends.
The email appears genuine, but it is a complex scam inviting you to enter credit card, paypal, password and bank account details.
I telephoned Ebay and Paypal who confirmed the emails are part of a world-wide scam.
The tell tale signs are that the email is addressed:
Dear Valued Paypal member - all Ebay and Paypal emails should be addressed personally!
Also the bogus address and details will look something like this:
1cgi-bin@paypal.com Case ID Number: PP-971-214-224

I had one a few days ago and reported it to eBay. It told me there had been unauthorised bids on my account.

How would they know they were unauthorised unless I told them? Idiot scammers!!

No but it scared the shite out of me for 15 mins until I realised it was bogus ... cos I have just got myself back into profit on Ebay after my musical catastrophe back in June!

I've been using ebay for a few years now, and hardly a day goes by without someone sending one of these emails. Some look better than others, and also if you bank online, expect to start getting these from your 'banks' as well.
Just remember though, never log into any site that contains personal details via a email. Always log in through the sites home page, using the address you know.

It's a great scam though if anyone falls for it:cool:

I get those a lot, and report them to eBay and Paypal every time. (forward to; spoof@ebay.com)

The issue I have though, is with eBay and Paypal not doing enough to compbat criminals. It takes ages to get dishonest sellers kicked off eBay, if at all- and with the billions they are making, they really could do more to fight the tricksters - WARN their member BEFORE they get dodgy emails, for starters.

The ebay toolbar is a good bet....the account guard goes green if it is a ebay site, and red if it is fake....although I dare say this can be beaten. If in doubt report it!

If in doubt-do nowt.

If eBay want to get in touch they will-using your real name.

Do these scammers ever get anybody doing shit like that? Likewise the idiots who do the bank scams. Do they really think I'm going to contact them with my bank details when they send out shitloads on the same day from all different banks? Add to that the pidgin English:lolol:

Of course Mr Nigerian/Russian...please note my following bank details, along with my PIN number:dunce: :lolol: :shootself :shootself
