There's a story in today's paper about a former premier league youth player (with accomplices) trying to sell a (stolen) £2m Ming vase for £450,000.

Made me muse about things we buy and then sell at a loss. (And I wonder how much Chelsea will sell Marc Cucurella for).

My fess is a hand-built 4' high replica of an aluminium pencil sharpener that served as a Champagne ice bucket/serving point. It was gorgeous and cost me about £20. When it came to threatening our marriage I put it on ebay and sold it for the princely sum of 1p. (And I delivered it.)

Which taught me something about the economic operation of marketplaces (i.e. there's not a massive interest in 4' tall pencil sharpener Champagne buckets.)

Any other selling below cost fesses from the BHA parish?

Surely the most interesting bit of this is how it came to threaten your marriage?!

Would your Missus (I'm assuming, apologies if wrong) be happy if you went out - without her knowledge - to buy a 4' pencil sharpener ice bucket? - I'll try to find a photo
She wouldn’t give a shit but she wouldn’t have it on display in the house…probably.. I’ll wait for the photo before confirming

Probably not if it was £20. Did it sharpen big pencils, too?

That’s amazing —- I’d have definitely gone to 2p, and hoped that Liverpool didn’t suddenly come in for it at the last minute.

West is BEST
I can’t compete with that but during lockdown when my gym was closed I bought about £300 worth of gym stuff for home.
When my gym reopened I sold it all to a mate’s nephew for £50.
