Seems we are getting a bad reputation

To add weight to some of the above, I was in Islington after the Arsenal v Man Utd game,

about 1.5 miles from the ground.

You should have seen the old bill vehicles, literally hundreds going everywhere, it was obviously kicking off all over north London down to Kings Cross.

But not one word in the papers. The unwritten rule, that you cannot harm the Premieurship.

But also no local fuss that it will harm the Arsenal Planning Application.

Everyone knows 10,000, 20,000 and even 50,000 fans are really day tourists, who spend loads of cash and boost the local economy.

If football was really bad, it would not be tolerated and have been closed down.

By the way I have noticed an increase in idiots within Brighton and elsewhere. I used to wear colours everywhere but no more. I have also heard many a tale of small groups of our fans getting jumped on around the London stations. But have also witnessed one of our firms jump a bunch of innocent Tottenham fans at Kings Cross.

Alas, these people will start a fight any night of the week, why should Saturday afternoon be any different.

There are all ways the odd skirmishes at matches, Was in Huddersfield on Saturday and about 6 police horses were outside the front of some pub in the town centre looked nothing major but the press could well have made more of it.

Good point from London Calling. United, Arsenal, Spurs, Villa, Wolves for example all have very nasty elements to there support and are in 'action' pretty much every game. Remember Villa vs B'ham at Villa Park? That was a televised game where Villa 'boys' went after B'ham inside the stadium. What went on throughout the rest of the day is anybodys guess but i can't imagine it was very nice. How much were they fined for that? £22,000. f*** all.

Anyone remember being showered with all manner of shit away at B'ham in the early/mid nineties? I remember it well, only about 12/13, for some reason me and my dad were quite close to a couple of our old 'lads' and they were trying to get out the ground to get at B'ham because they couldn't believe what was happening, B'ham escaped any punishment for that.

We haven't got a bad reputation compared to the likes of Cardiff, Millwall, Stoke, Wolves, Spurs etc. Its been a long time since we had any kind of reputation but whem we did it was as quite a tasty bunch of boys, better off that we don't have it now. It would be much nicer to be known as a group of fans that go and enjoy supporting their team, having a few drinks with the locals and out singing them (that being the easy part).

Bit all over the place that reply, what i mean to say was... erm.... i don't really know but you get me, yeah?

Everyone posting here to say that they have never seen any trouble at Withdean must have been in the ground early and left late for the Cardiff game a couple of years back.

Other than that, though, I can honestly say that I have only witnessed one incident where anything more than name calling took place.

We've come a long way from the days when I used to hide my scarf in my trousers to get it to and from away games, and even some home games (Leeds/Chelsea/Spurs). Please, god, don't let it be like that again when my kids start going on their own.

I actually quite enjoy the fact that we can now be civilised with opposing fans and actually talk to them. It's just the old Bill that still need educating, in my opinion, as I've got more angry with them at many games than even Mike Prosser!! I absolutely detest the fact that they treat all footy fans as total low-life. Particularly the Met.

Well ill be on the look out for your fan that decided to kick & elbow me at Brighton station in march.

Also you do have a fair few numbers, walking in the police escort back to the station they were coming at us from all the side roads.

Still cant believe they attach themselves to football, more about looking the part than getting involved, well this end anyway.

As I was walking round to the car park after the game some Luton fan was walking past and shouted at the Brighton fans "wipe your arse for your boyfriend you bunch of f***ing queers." I let it blow over my head but if I was in a bad mood I could have very easily twatted the little shit.

If they try to torment people enough they will get battered so its his own fault.

I think people on here have not experienced trouble because it rarely happens at withdean (cardiff, chesterfield being the exception). however there is regular trouble in town..ie when Sheffield Utd came down and turned over a pub etc.

JBH, let me guess, the Luton fan was aged about 15, was probably spotty, wearing a baseball cap and trying to impress his mates by his witty comment.

This sort of abuse is not banter. It is an unpleasant and aggressive insult. Any Luton fan who got thumped no doubt deserved it.
The element on NSC who believe that we should take the gay taunting in good spirit are making a serious mistake. Personally I'm not a fighter but I've stopped being the good natured home fan I was three years back and now make a point of being unfriendly and unhelpful to visiting fans. I even surprised myself by threatening a middle aged toseur at Reading who made a comment about the Albion and poofs.
