Chronic failure is what will happen. Many people won't come to London because it's so expensive.

…..and the transport system is Donald Ducked. Seb Coe was a former MP so why are people surprised when he behaves like a politician?

Complete myth.

Our transport system could be improved of course, but is pretty damn far from f***ed.

I put up with that “complete myth” from Victoria to Holborn for 2 years. It was a shambles - over crowded, over priced and over heated in the summer.

So you're basing our entire transport network on one crap tube journey?

Compared to New York it's a picnic. I have friends living in Staten Island and in Queens. It takes both of them an hour and a half to commute to Manhatten. Utter shite.

If I hear the word "legacy" mentioned again (in relation to the London Olympics), I'm gonna throw up. And I bet that old sleeze Sullivan manages to get his grubby mits on the joint for West Ham in the end. Dirty deals all round - with little thanks to the taxpayer & the National Frigging Lottery. Smashing.

As a slight aside, the organisers of the Sydney Olympics favoured the London bid principally because they were impressed with both the London transport system and the proposals for the upgrades required for the Olympics.

In the great scheme of things, that may not count for much, but to me it does paint a picture to potential tourists and visitors that, as 'outsiders', they feel London can cope.

And if they've any brains, they'll avoid Victoria to Holborn at rush hour like the plague.

Didn't realise we were discussing the New York subway, but in defence of the MTA their system is about a third of the cost of the Underground with no complicated fare structure, it runs 24 hours, the air conditioning works and you get a seat. Can't speak for Staten Island. You will also find that Ken Livingstone had to appoint an American, Bob Kiley, as chairman of tfl. Your turn sir.....

Quite so, having been working earlier this year for a government organisation that promotes tourism and thus 2012 I get them impression this is going to make the loss on the Millennium Dome look like nothing. Why existing facilities like Crystal Palace stadium (and the velodrome down the road at Dulwich) could not have been redeveloped is beyond me.

Chronic failure is what will happen. Many people won't come to London because it's so expensive.

The stadium at Crystal Palace would have to be totallly re-developed (Olympic stadiums arerequired to hold over 80,000) and the transport infrastructure would never cope.

I've not particularly interested in the international throwing and jumping competion, but it's always nice when it just being regenerates a sh*tty area into one that's quite nice.

Happened in Barcelona and looks to be happening around Stratford as well. Not often a whole area like that gets a facelift and if it takes an international throwing and jumping competition to do it, so be it.
