I've read quite a few threads and posts here where people are convinced that Carole was our best player yesterday - he even got man of the match.

Am I alone in thinking that he was AWFUL yesterday. I think there's no doubt he's our most skillful player, but as a winger yesterday, I'm pretty sure he didn't put ONE ball in the box. If I'm mistaken and he did, it certainly wasn't accurate. Yesterday, he had all the tricks, jinks and turns but no end product whatsoever. In terms of value to the team performance I thought Frutos was head and shoulders above him.

I'm inclined to agree with McCammon on this one. I don't think the strikers get any kind of service from midfield - this is damning when we have players of Carole's quality in the team! I felt sorry for Gatting yesterday, how can we tell how good he is if he's given nothing to work with?

So Mr Carole, less glitter more GOLD please. You have the talent and you should be helping us destroy teams like Leicester.

I tend to agree. All the step-overs and flicks in the world are worth little if you can't put a single decent cross into the box in the whole game. It's no suprise our strikers struggle - perhaps the problem is less with them, more with our midfield. It's becoming apparent why Soton didn't sign Carole at the beginning of the season.

Agree 100%.

Playing Carole and Frutos together in the same team does not work. When we are defending its like having 10 men on the pitch

That was our problem last week at Coventry, our one clear chance came from Fruity who seized on an opportunity and hit the crossbar. For all his mazy runs and step overs Seb didn't get that many telling crosses in, mind you that appears to be the story of our season so far.

In Sebs defence what would have been the point in crosses into the box yesterday with their big men at the back. I8 would have thought a better idea was to try to thread the ball through the defence on the ground as neither Hart or Gatting are 6ft+ brick shithouses are they?

Perhaps if we get one of those type players on loan both Carole and Frutos can start lumping crosses in.

Don't get me wrong, I would rather watch an Albion team that plays good passing football on the ground, rather than resort to the Wimbledon approach of old and just hoof it into the box and put a thuggish forward on the end of it. With the size of our forwards we would probably have a better success rate against big defenders by keeping it on the ground, especially as we do have players capable of playing that way.

Frutos seems to be one of those players who someone managers to close players down just a split second after he would actually be required to make a tackle. Either that or he waves his foot at it.

Carole seems to be lacking confidence which is understandable given the circumstances. He is most dangerous when running at players but at the moment he just seems to cut inside every time.

I would move Carole to the left and Hart back onto the right with Frutos on the bench. Having them both in the same team is a luxury we cannot afford and puts too much pressure on the defence and leaves Hammond and Carpenter chasing the ball.

So becasue we don't have 2 Peter Crouchs up front, we shouldn't cross the ball?

You don't have to be big to score goals from crosses. You have to be in the right place and be able to finish. After all the abll needn't be 7ft in the air.

Personally I prefer Frutos generally, unless of course Carole can produce more of an end product.

However, I really don't think Carole lacks confidence. He's easily beating 2/3 players at a time. the problme is he's getting no nearer to the goal and no nearer to making a cross.

I think Frutos is a better player than Carole. Does (just) more to help the defence and seems to have a better range of passing not as pacy but has a good shot on him.

My son went to the match yesterday and his view was that we played far too many long balls up to the forwards - practically missing out midfield altogether. For whatever reason we aren't building through the team but going Route 1 - and it was all breaking down against the Leicester back 4. If so, on the occasion the ball got to Carole I expect he'd seen enough of the ball going nowhere and wanted to find a good target - but couldn't.

However, on the occasions when I've been home to watch them, I would say that Frutos puts in a much more dangerous cross - both in the air and on the ground.

There were a couple of times last week when Seb ran at the Coventry defence, beat a couple of players easily and then seemed to have run down a blind alley, I was just hoping that he would make a beeline for the box and try to get a shot in. If he had played like that there would have been more chances of getting corners or drawing a foul for a freekick outside the box or even the odd penalty. The only time I got excited in the second half was when we did win a free kick within striking range for Chippy, however his shot came back off the wall.

maybe just for the rest of this season eh! we really do need to stay in this division this season even if it's forth from botom again and if we can do that it's not going to be pretty but that is the price you pay for punching above your weight+it will give the youngsters chance to come on.

Exactly, hammond just hooked the ball in and they couldnt deal with it, we didnt do that enough yesterday. Just seen hammonds second yellow on tv and theres no way it was a yellow, the bloke should have been booked for diving.

Disagree. With everything else that's going on, surely this is not the time to dig out Carole. Who else in the team has the same level of ball control and the confidence/ability to take on 2 or 3 players on a run???
