I am delighted to announce the award of some BHAFC-related silverware to end the 2024/25 season!

The Seagulls prevailed at this year's International Marquetry Exhibition in Essex this weekend! One of my entries, "Where Seagulls Dare", came first in class and assures promotion to the 2nd highest tier (of 5) in The Marquetry Society's official rankings for 2025/6.

I appear to have "done a Micky Adams 2001 and 2002" with back to back (seagulls themed!) promotions in 2024 and 2025 - some of you may remember my 2024 "Seagulls over Brighton's West Pier" exhibit I posted last year.

The latest picture took more than 175 hours to make from start to finish. It measures 280mm x 300mm. The Amex stadium itself measures 75mm x 35mm and took 25 hours to make!

Fantastic effort DK (that's not Dick Knight).

At least your fingers aren't as cursed as your Amex appearances!

Marvellous stuff 👏

That Seagull in the middle has those same penetrating eyes that a certain TB has, when talks to you.

Great effort.

That box is fantastic, looking a tad art deco. Is the ship the Queen Mary?
Great work.
Thank you TR. It is indeed art deco style and the liner was supposed to be the QM1 (which only had 3 funnels) but I added a 4th funnel for artistic effect!
The 3 photos below show greater detail of the box lid and the hexagonal sides, which I made up via 2 separate designs each of which I then sliced into 3 to create 6 separate, but linked, panels. I must confess that, out of all the pieces I made for the 2025 exhibition, this was my favourite!

Yes, all wood, and just about any veneer type you can imagine, there's no limit...other than the prohibitive cost of the more exotic veneers. Oak, maple, sapele, walnut, rosewood, ash feature heavily. I probably have more than 50 different species I've collected over the years.
