SCR - Coppell Jumped or was Pushed?

I know it's been bandied about before, but either Harty or a caller last night again brought up the issue of Coppell feeling that Knight had basically 'sold' him to Reading as he wanted the cash. DK got SC for nothing and made a tidy £230k on him. Also the fact that DK could have refused Reading permission to talk to him, SC would have 'apparently' been fine with that, but DK agreed to it. Then you have SC putting on a brave face during his 'unveiling' press conference at Reading and making all the right noises about their potential etc. etc. I know this conspiracy theory has more holes than the JFK magic bullet theory, and I know DK is 'apparently' whiter than white to us Albion fans, but...

No. Have to disagree with you.

1. Knight wants us to win the title - we needed Coppell for tha.

2. Coppell had a contract that allwed him to talk to other managers. Reading asked if they could talk to him, Knight HAD to say yes.

3. I just can't believe it if it;s true!

Hmmmm. Good business sense though. DK ends up quarter of a mill up on the deal, and gets our next manager in for free:jester:

Personally I don't believe it, and it may have been something thrown out by Coppell to make his departure more palatable to us Albion fans he walked out on.

I thought that wasn't the case. Just that DK is too nice for the good of the club at times.

Preposterous!

If Coppell didn't want to leave nobody could have forced him.

He had a contract at Brighton. If DK had terminated that contract not only would DK have had to pay Coppell up, but he would have got no compensation either.

He chose to leave and, having made that choice, Knight had every right to seek as much compensation money as possible.

Well said.

Coppout also has a history of walking out on clubs

You beat me to it Yorkie.

Coppout will dump Reading in the brown smelly stuff too. It may not be for a year or two but he'll do it. His CV is going to need a lot of pages to it. When he does quit Reddung, or gets fired, he'll find it very difficult to land another job.

Coppout jumped-DK wouldn't kick him out so that the club that's poaching him gets him for nothing.

Coppell shafted us pure and simple.

I'm with DK on this 100% as soon as your manager goes and talks to another club , he is no longer welcome with us and can bugger off.

Exactly. Decent, honorable Peter Taylor said 'No' straight away. Once Coppell had scratched his chin and gone "Hmmm." the writing was on the wall. That was the moment DK knew his heart wasn't really with us and if it wasn't Reading it would be somebody else. After that it was a damage-limitation exercise.

Damage limitation and make as much money for the club out of the scumbag's leaving. Well done DK in squeezing 230k out of the mad Pole for a traiterous ex-Palace :tosser:
