Dickhead!

Rangers were actually the better team in the first half and were denied a stonewall penalty just after the half-hour mark.

They played well for first 15 mins of 2nd half but when first, then second goals went in that was it!

They lost to the third best team in Spain who have some great players - plenty of positives can be taken from the way Rangers played tonight and if they play the tims on Sunday the way they played tonight the result will be a good win for the Gers!!

WATP

Calm down dear, it's only important if you care about 3rd rate F.R.I.S.P. football.

Mental, some of this drivel. Who was the first British club to win the f***ing thing?

Jocks on the whole are clued up about football, I find more than the average English punter. You dont get many post 96'ers up there. Its not their fault their arteries and lungs are f***ed and they cannot go out in sunshine or they turn to dust, so don't do too well.

Like all things Jock football, you can still hate them and want them to be in it. I hate all this The Champions League Should Only Be For Proper Teams Like Real Madrid rubbish, if people MEAN IT and are not just jock baiting. If they are, then keep it up.

A lot of the anti Rangers and Celtic stuff comes from people who haven't been up there, seen games, seen the sort of coverage they get and pressure they are under. It's massive. A big Rangers match could take up the back five pages of a tabloid quite easily.

But as someone quite correctly said earlier, currently Rangers and Celtic are two huge clubs who just happen to have very average teams. That won't change until they are allowed into either the PL or a Super League. In the circumstances, the fact that 48,000, or 60,000 in Celtic's case, turn up every week to watch that dross is nothing short of amazing.

there is no reason scotland deserve automatic qualification spot for the champions league.

As of next season, they won't. The scottish champions will have to pre-qualify for the group stage.
Rangers should make the most of their 6 games this season, it could be a while before they make it into the competition again.

For a country that is football mad, the standard is shocking.

Not really surprising as most of the 'football mad' bigots spend their time wandering aimlessly round shopping centres in ill fiitting Rangers and Celtic shirts...

As the SPL is generally a better standard than Div 3 of the English league in which we all support BHA then your comment defies all logic!!
That really does not explain why it is that players who are shocking (or at best anonymous) in league 1, or even lower can then go on Scottish prem clubs. 2 immediately springing to mind are David Thompson and Leon Knight. Also, aside from the biggest 3 or 4 clubs some of the attendences would embarrass a Conference side. As an equivalent to England the Scots prem is made up of 2 lower prem sides, a couple of Championship sides, a couple of league 1 with the rest being league 2 or Conference. Got to hand it to them for range of ability though.

And as a reverse, Motherwell's first choice keeper is now the Albion's back up.

It has to be said that both Thompson and Knight are equally anonymous up north!

That said, look at what Jim Gannon has done at Motherwell. He has taken a bunch of almost unheard of (well I didn't really know who they were) lower league players from England (Giles Coke, Tom Hately, Chris Humphries to name but 3), and all look like they are capable of holding their own in the SPL (time will tell however).

There have also been more than a few who make a name for themselves in Scotland and then are never heard of again when they come to England - perhaps Buzz will go this way? The suspicion is that the players in question are simply happy for their payday for playing in Championship/League 1 and simply dont bother their ####.

Not sure about your point re attendances. Are you saying that Scotland should only have 1 league, and the rest should be non-league/amateur? If so, to be fair, thats pretty much what the lower Leagues are in Scotland - certainly not many outwith the SPL (if any) are full time.

I dont believe you can compare attendances between England and Scotland - there are only so many of whatever the population is now to go round (and some of them have to make up the numbers for the imports that are all too rife in the game). Its almost to the credit of many of these clubs that they still exist!

The point with attendances is that - along with TV money - they are the main drivers of a club's income and so it's means to spend on players. Sugar daddies aside, the less income they get the less decent players they can afford, so the lower the standard of play. Consequently the likes of Celtic can spend like a mid-table English prem side, while the likes of Falkirk (who get lower gates than we do) can only spend like a league 1/2 side. How can Rangers and Celtics really be 'giants' if they are only ever competing with minnows?

Thats a fair point, and I doubt many would argue against it.

There has long been a chicken and egg situation when it comes to the money the Old Firm syphon off from the rest of the Scottish game. Should they get what little money is available to improve their performances in Europe for the greater good of Scotland, or should it be invested in the other clubs to improve the competitiveness of the league?

There is a frightening stat somewhere that says that the Old Firm take something like 70%+ of the money the Scottish game generates (on top of their gate money).

The other side of the coin however is that they other clubs have basically adopted a grow your own policy re players, and I think that the quality of the younger players beginning to come through is possibly as good as it has been for years. The Scots are even beginning to export some of that talent to England for decent(ish) money!

the thing is its just the way it works. No one slags denmark (same population and area) off for FCK and Brondby saying it ruins the Danish game. But perhaps then people care about Scotch football more than you care to admit!

One f***ing massive city (that also supports otherclubs that people conveniently forget to mention)

two average sized ones one that is not near norway supporting two big clubs

and small towns

how likely is that to be comparable to a country of 50 million with umteen cities of 500k plus populations.

Its funny that people get sneery about jock football. yes its shit and yes they are knife wielding alcoholic ginger oddballs, but f*** me they turn out for football.
