I would like to see a bit more ambition here, we keep having threads where someone suggests the name of a player "who could do a good job for us", this is followed by numerous others coming up with reasons why they wouldn't.
Will all this change if the vote for Falmer goes in our favour, or will people start saying, "its too long till the new ground is built", come on guys, start looking on the positive side.
There are numerous decent players kicking around who would give their eye teeth to play for a team like Brighton, surely they would consider our present position ie: crap ground, not a lot of money, but also look at what we have achieved in the past 5 years against the odds, give out club a firm base and there is no knowing what we could achieve, wouldn't you want to be part of that. Look at other positives, we took over 30k to Cardiff, does that suggest a small time club, not to me it doesen't it just suggests one with enormous potential that is being held back by unreasonable constraints.
I reckon in 5 more years we will be able to look back with even more satisfaction than we do now, there are bound to be players who will want to be part of that. Keep the faith.
Admire you optimism Gully but too many
white lies are coming out from the club...
ie..2000 extra seats in time for next season
there only saving grace is that they did'nt specify
which one !!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you buy your season tickets early the money
raised will go towards team strengthening ( 2seasons ago)
what happened...no manager to start with then some
numpty who did'nt have a clue and then signings when it was
to late despite there heroic efforts.
Just for the record i'm a season ticket holder but its just
a shame those seats are'nt in to give some of the 20,000 +
who watched us at cardiff a chance.
The 20,000 who went to Cardiff wouldn't go to every match even if we had a Stadium that would hold them. Our hard core support is about 8 - 10,000 and if results are going the right way it would go to about 13/14,000. I am only talking of home support as this season there are a number of clubs coming to us who if the seating allowed would bring massive away support. Even 2000 extra seats, if granted, are not going to make much difference to home suipporters getting tickets I do not think.
Portslade, I am nothing if not optimistic, approaching 30 years following the Albion as man and boy has helped me develop this quality beyond all belief.
BensGrandad, agree totally with you about the potential for our crowds, not everyone who went to Cardiff would turn up at Withdean (if large enough) or Falmer once built. I do believe that over the last few seasons we might have come close to selling out the Goldstone, had we still been playing there, for the odd game or two. At least 2,000 extra seats would help generate a bit more cash, better atmosphere and more importantly the chance for us to maintain and build on support in the run up to Falmer.
I don't have a season ticket, due to distance I probably wouldn't buy one even if we were at Falmer, I would however turn up for a few more home games if I didn't have to plan going to a match so long in advance (ie: postal applications).
We have, in the past, AVERAGED over 20k... I know, I was there... the potential is sky high for our club... not investing in the 2k extra seats is short-sighted in the extreme...
I believe we would get about 15k per game at Falmer as a conservative estimate... however, with the excitement of a new stadium, the figure may well be higher...
Back to the thread topic... why shouldn't we be able to compete for Taylor?... we are in the Championship now... last time I looked, Blackpool aren't...
