Something positive? Well you should be able to take some points off Belarus and Moldova in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Ummm...those yellow shirts they were wearing last night are quite nice. In a way. If you like that kind of thing. Sort of.

And I noticed the SFA's policy of giving over "one seating block per fan" seems to be working a treat as well.

Hungary will need play against teams who represent a step up in class if they're going to be taken seriously.

It's time Lothar Matteus gave The Pig Whistle second XI a call to test his side that little bit more.

maybe, but for so many years this was the game that I could enjoy till the final whistle. nice passing, fighting, and so on...

Hampden is bloody awful. It's gargantuan and the fans are miles from the pitch. The problem is, if they want to play the games in Glasgow (which makes sense, population- and transport-wise), it's Hampden, Celtic Park or Ibrox. Most Celtic fans support the Republic and most Rangers fans support England, and I wouldn't be too surprised if most of those that do support Scotland wouldn't go to a match at the 'other' team's ground. Next best choice, of course, is Tynecastle - but Hearts's board seems hell-bent on selling it, so that's that, probably.

Friendlies, definitely, should never be played at Hampden. They can't sell it out for friendlies (just as, it has to be said, St James' wasn't close to being sold out last night, either) and should move the matches around the grounds - not just to Tynecastle, but all around the country. It would make for a better atmosphere, and it would reinvigorate support for the national team.

Agree totally. I'm sure they've played friendlies before at places like Aberdeen (didn't they get turned over by Egypt there ?). It certainly makes sense to take it on the road, as 12,000 fans rattling around Hampden Park is just a sick joke. Are they playing Slovenia there in the World Cup qualifier ? Cos I can't see them getting more than about 20,000 for that either. They need to play the smaller teams at smaller venues, it makes no sense whatsoever to play it at a stadium which is barely going to be 1/3 full. Or do the corporate hobnobs with their executive boxes not fancy a trip to Motherwell or something...sounds likely.

It's like the end of Braveheart you see.

Hampden Park is like William Wallace, once great but turned into a bit of a pussy and got killed. The army is the team they seemed a bit agrieved at losing their leader and were dispirited and could have lost to the english (the likes of Moldova and such) and been colonised proper like (beaten). If the games are moved around the country the sprit of Wallace could be rekindled and the team (the army) could start performing and kick the English out of Scotland (draw the odd game).

Or something.

They always play qualifiers at Hampden - which is why it is all the more important that friendlies are played elsewhere.

Pittodrie, Easter Road & Tynecastle have all been used in recent years (the last game at Pittodrie was the 2-1 defeat against Nigeria). Tannadice could host, too.

There's not too much point hosting at Motherwell - it's virtually a Glasgow suburb - if you're going to take the team around the country, at least head out further than a few miles from Glasgow!

But what sort of crowds are they getting for qualifiers ? Hampden must hold about 60,000. The fact is that this current Scottish team is never going to come CLOSE to filling that stadium, even for qualifiers, unless its for the visit of a high-profile team. Surely a packed Motherwell ground (for example) would be preferable to a deserted Hampden, and it can only work in the teams favour as well atmosphere-wise.

Unfortunately as the SFA have lashed out on refurbishing Hampden and installing shedloads of executive boxes, they now appear lumbered with a god-awful team doomed to play in front of a handful of fans scattered to the four corners of a vast stadium.
