I'd take him for the squad, whilst youth should be the focus you need the odd old head around to keep things ticking over and I can't think of many better to keep a level head.

Edit; Except Phil Neville, though he lacks a certain...you know...ability.

He said No to his country. Time for new blood.

Completely and utterly pointless taking him. We are not going to win the competition, with or without him, and no way is he going to be around for future England squads, so forget him.

Agree with these two. He was excellent in the past and can still do the job in most Premiership games. However, in the title decider against Man City a couple of weeks back, he was well off the pace. And importantly, City are packed with the sort of international players that he would be up against at the Euros.

We're not going to win the tournament, so I hope RH takes a young team.

Rooney was well off the pace against Man City as well to be fair. As for Scholes, I hope RH takes a young team too, but critically Scholes isn't part of the established old guard, and holds a special level of respect from his fellow professionals. While there is no longevity in taking him, he'd be a breath of fresh air especially to a young side. He has no agenda, no established cliques in the set up. He'd be there purely to play.

If Wiltshere was fit, it wouldn't be such an issue, but what a young England side would need is someone who can tick the whole team over, ensure everyone is involved in play, and keep the ball move at a pace to suit the team and the state of the match. There isn't a fit England player who can do that right now.

It would be a one tournament decision no doubt, but I'd have him in the squad & starting XI in a heartbeat.
