Personally I would not mind seeing Heskey up front in this championship, I fail to see exactly what he has done wrong in his career that pisses so many people off to the extent that they would rather he was sent home than anything else. I rate Heskey and think he provides a good outlet as well as being a good foil for Owen.

But that's just my opinion.

Heskey works hard, ok he may have an outrageously bad first touch but he does work the defenders hard and gets the all important flick on's to Owen. Have him run around like mad for 65mins then bring on Vassell to charge at the defence, by which time will be knackered from coping with nippy Own and big tough Heskey.

thats if Rooney gets injured of course!

having a squad with 4 strikers in was always gonna be a risk surely we could have left 1 of the many full backs or midfielders out and found room for defoe

He's so good ......that Liverpool are letting him go to birmingham???

knew defoe should have gone! sven u :tosser:

disagree, Vassell is better IMO, Defoe has only had half a season in the top flight, give him next season then see what happens, if he bangs them in fair enough get him in the squad. But its too early IMO for him right now.

Well said. Vasssell has hardly let England down.
he hasn't he seems to find that bit extra when he plays for england but just think we could have found room for a fifth forward and the suprise element of defoe some where in the squad

I think he has gone down the lines of having 2 players for each position on the pitch plus a third keeper. I guess if we had serious injuries, both Scholes and Dyer have played in fairly forward roles for their clubs this season and that was Sven's thinking.

Alright, he's never going to win the Golden Boot, but I think much of the abuse Heskey gets is well out of line.

Fact: sometimes you need a bit of variation in attack, to break the other team's rhythm, and he gives that. Many contintental teams cannot defend against a big guy up front- look how the Germans went on the back foot last night when Van Hooijdonk came on and gave Holland some aerial strength. The Dutch suddenly looked more threatening. It's not going to work all the time, but Heskey is useful to have around. When he plays well, England play well. End of.

I don't think he's the world's greatest, but he's nowhere near as shit as many people like to make out, and does not deserve the crap he unfailingly gets. Any player on the pitch could have made that challenge on Zidane. It's bang out of order to make him the scapegoat for the defeat.

With Scholes and Butt out he may have to do a job on the left wing. I seem to remember he performed well there for England in one game at the last world cup

50/50 according to Lampard interview at half-time of last nights Ger v Hol match, BBC News seem to think he's fit from reports this morning though.

totally agree with some of your points there edna

how anyone can make him the scapegoat for the france game is a mystery to me clumsy tackles late in games are made all the time but unfortunatly that 1 was punished!!

iv got a mate who's missed 1 liverpool game in 10 years and he raves on about wat a good player he's! think he goes over the top but he watches him week in week out so who are we to argue?
