The demolition of Scarborough’s much-loved Athletic Ground in Seamer Road is imminent.

A tender has been put out by Scarborough Council inviting companies to submit bids to level the stadium, where football was first played way back in 1898.

What a shame. I seem to remember an FA Cup tie there involving Chelsea not so long ago (5 or 6 years ?).

A derelict football ground is always a sad sight.

I've been up to Scarborough a lot recently as I was the best man for a friend who married a Scarborough girl.

Got out and had a wander around the stadium. It is a sorry sight.

Another side that disappeared into oblivion whilst the media were more concerned with who was signing a new contract for Man Utd or multi-million pound transfers going through.

Loads and loads of Leeds shirts in and around Scarborough.

Ah the McCain Stadium, the famous 'Theatre of Chips'. Didn't they try to sell it to clear their debts only to find there was some sort of restrictive covenant on it that said it had to be used for sport?

Interestingly after the demise of the original Scarborough FC TWO teams got formed from the ashes: Scarborough Athletic and Scarborough Town. I wonder what the story there is?
