Turns out I don't just say:-

'one scalextric, please'.

I've been reading up, and am just beginning to get a little lost, within some of the reviews. (people seem to take this stuff very seriously)

So does anyone have any recommendation, from previous experience, as to what makes good track/cars/controllers, for a first kit.

(yes Bozza I will buy through Amazon)

I got micro scalextric for our lot once. Bloody excellent ! Great fun for kids and adults alike, but especially so as even our 3yr old can keep these little beauties on the track more often than not. These micro cars have magnets in you see and so you can even get ones that do loop the loops and all sorts. Yet still you get a challenge for older kids and adults as they will come off the track if you go too mental. Basically they are just full scalextric but at a scale of 1:64.

I promise you you and the kids won't be disappointed

I only heard of digital scalextric a couple of years ago. Popped into a shop and asked for two scalextric mini coopers for my nephews xmas pressies, and got asked if it was a digital set

There's lines in the Amazon review section saying:-

'the track was an affront to the Hornby name'.

At that point I thought, 'jeez if I want to read self indulgent bollox, I'll go back to NSC'

The starter kits are fine. Get a digital one with a crossover, then if your good enough you can overtake on the same track.

We got the micro one for our lad when he was about 4 - they have little magnets on the bottom which help them to stay on the track - he loved it and was able to set it up himself easily.

A guy I used to work with used to buy full sets then split them up and sell them on eBay, keeping a couple of bits back to make up a circuit eventually.

Apparently made him a couple of quid.

By Christmas jnr will be 7.
So I'm thinking big boy, scalextric.

Scalaxtric is FANTASTIC (apart from when the car comes off the track at the furthest point possible to where you are sitting)

Like others, I bought my son the 'micro' version when he was about 5 or 6, as the cars stay on the track.

We bought him the larger scale version when I think he was about 10.

It comes out of the loft at Christmas time (except of course this year when I will be in Chicago and Green Bay!!)

(That last comment is only intended for the OP!)

i think to start you just go and buy one of the box sets.

the great thing is Scaletrix is now on teh cards for relatives to get somthing for the next few years. it grows, like lego, till you have a mssive box with enough pieces to go round the house (much to mums bemusment... :lolol:)
