In the shadow of Seaford Head
Fantastic Day at Hove. At lunch no one would have thought we could avoid the follow on but here we are with maximim batting and bowling points and in the lead. Then I look at the Table and see that Lancs are 1 point ahead of us. Flipping Heck. We have to win this game as I do not fancy our chances against Lancs next week. Then we need to win or draw against Leicestershire in the final match.
We can do it..I hope.

I think we did brilliantly today. Considering where we were at lunch I doubt that anyone thought we'd be leading at the end of the day. Now, if we can get a bit of a lead (say 100) we can actually expect to win this.

This match could actually decide the championship, because if we get max points we can go to Lancs knowing that even a defeat won't put them ahead of us (I'm assuming that Surrey are now out of contention).

Actually Jim D. If we just draw against Middlesex then Lancs can't go ahead of us, even if they beat us. In fact, even if we lose to Mx, we'd have to play really, really badly against Lancs for them to overtake us.

We're still sitting in a good position as Leicester at home should be easy. What we want is an old-fashioned wet Manchester this week so we can limp to a soggy draw.
