And that is fine. But if we say to him 'come here, its a better shop window and we will not be CPFC ****ish and stand in your way of a bigger move' what's he got to lose?

And if Lazio make the same promise?

Light dusting? It will be a bloody avalanche of sugar if we pull this off.

Yeah, we'll be having icing with a hint of cake if this happens.

Worried an Albion bid could smoke out some of the European big dogs.
We were interested in Thomas Delaney and then Borrusia Dortmund came in.

Hard to know if it's a sewer source or not.

A very late and much increased bid on others would be a clever ploy though.

Sander Berge pourrait quitter Genk pour Brighton et devenir le plus gros transfert sortant de l'histoire du football belge

Seems if true our bid would be the biggest ever in the Belgian league.

The google translate of that article is as follows:-

"
Racing Genk has already hit big money this summer for Leandro Trossard, Ruslan Malinovskyi and Joseph Aidoo. But the biggest blow may still be coming ...

Will Sander Berge (21 years old) become the record outgoing transfer of the Jupiler Pro League? The Norwegian international medal is highly coveted and Racing Genk knows that it may be necessary to resolve to separate if the offers become serious ... and difficult to refuse. This would be the case with the Brighton & Hove Albion offer if it were confirmed.

Brighton splurge
Because according to the Mirror, the club of Premier League, where Leandro Trossard already signed for 20 million euros, would be ready to blow up the bank and beat his transfer record for Berge: an offer of 30 (!) Millions euros would be in preparation. A madness for the Seagulls, who have already beaten their transfer record entering twice this summer with Trossard, then Adam Webster (Bristol for 21 million) last week. Neal Maupay also arrived from Brentford against 20 million euros ...

If Sander Berge left Genk for 30 million, he would beat by several million the record so far held by Youri Tielemans, left Anderlecht to AS Monaco in 2017 against 26 million euros. Wesley, transferred this summer to Aston Villa, cost 25 million euros while Marouane Fellaini, who left for Everton in 2008, still occupies the third place on the podium with 21 million.

The hectic summer of Genk
Racing Genk has sold more than 43 million euros this summer: in addition to Leandro Trossard (20 million), Ruslan Malinovskyi (Atalanta Bergamo, 13.7 million) and Joseph Aidoo (Celta Vigo, 8 million) also left , as well as Marcus Ingvartsen, more discreetly gone to Union Berlin against 1.5 million. Amounts plus the sale of Alejandro Pozuelo last winter against 9 million euros. Ibrahima Seck also left Genk for Zulte Waregem permanently and for an undisclosed amount.

In short: enough to be widely profitable despite the incoming transfer campaign just as agitated ... and what to replace Sander Berge by striking a blow, because Felice Mazzù has already said that a departure of the Norwegian implied a total challenge of the game system."

I'm not going to start another thread because that would be c'untish. However, whether this singing comes off or not, for me this is the pinnacle of the Albion journey so far (my journey started in 1969, Brighton 4 Barrow 2ish). Happy days, and all class - none of that all fur coat and no knickers load of old bollocks up the road, to mix metaphors (which is all they deserve).

It's conceivable we'll have £65 mill quartet Izquierdo, Ali J, Bissouma and Locadia all missing from Saturday's line-up, £20 mill of talent out on loan (Clarke, Tau, McAllister) and £20 mill Webster on the bench. That's over £100 mill of talent not even starting against Watford, and still we go into the game feeling we can win it. Thank you Tony!

We must have a fairly good relationship with Genk following the Trossard transfer, so that should help if there is any truth in this story.

(That, and the fact that they would have taken £46 million from us in a 6-week period)

Is he any better than Stephens ???
Yes. A thousand times yes. But then I'd get rid of Stephens anyway. I lost all respect for him when he pitched in his transfer request, bleated on twatter when he didn't get his own way, then, shockingly, decided to stay when he actually got the sniff of the big time he craved. Then proceeded to spend the next two seasons hoofing it back to his defence. For me, he's always been championship at best.

He's already moved out of his Belgian apartment and has wanted a move all summer, think we may have a chance but only if a bigger club offering Europa/CL football doesn't swoop in last minute, like he's been waiting for. Mooy will be the backup option.

Brighton splurge!!
Still, nice to know that we are looking to 'blow the bank' on this one rather than pay for him in a more traditional format.
