Wycombe sack Sanchez

Match report: Tranmere 2-1 Wycombe
Wycombe manager Lawrie Sanchez has been sacked by the club in the wake of their defeat at Tranmere on Tuesday.
The loss at Prenton Park was Wycombe's seventh loss in 11 league games this season with the side's only win this term coming on the opening day of the season.

The club confirmed on their website that the club had dispensed with the manager's services.

"Wycombe Wanderers announce that they have today parted company with their manager, Lawrie Sanchez," read the club statement.

"The search for a replacement will start immediately.

"Interim arrangements will be included in a more detailed press statement to be issued within the next 24 hours."

Sanchez took over at Wycombe in February 1999 and his finest hour arguably came when he led the Second Division outfit to the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 2000/2001.

Wycombe beat Wolves, Wimbledon and Leicester before losing to eventual FA Cup winners Liverpool.

But they have struggled to mount a promotion challenge and finished 18th last season while being third from bottom in Division Two at the time of Sanchez's departure.
