I have the Galaxy note, which is huge (it is referred to as BIG PHONE in our house) Having traded up to a bigger phone there is no way i could go back to something the size of the i-phone. Hhaving a bigger screen is so much better for internet and calendar and text and games. And it fits into my pocket no problem.

s3 is ace, I love mine. Very quick browser, big sharp screen, excellent camera, masses of storage, packed full of funky features, and you don't have to pay ONE BILLION DOLLARS to own one, unlike anything Apple make. I like iPhones but when the competition is as good, if not better, and massively cheaper, there's really no argument.
PS I get the capital I problem, it's when you go back in the text to correct something and the next character after where you're typing is a letter rather than a space. So if you're correcting a letter in a word its best to clear the whole word and type it again. That's the only minor flaw I've found so far in 2 or 3 months of using it.

it is massive isnt it. however it does fit in the mans pocket, its just the right side of being too big. the new version doesnt look quite so brick like.
i was on the train the otherday and some older chap was raving to his friend about how good it was because he could type properly without loads of mistakes, on account of the larger on screen buttons and his big fingers/dodgy eyesight. things like that are probably over looked by companies, but opens up discrete sub-markets for their products.

I am way due an upgrade from my old faithful HTC Desire but I am holding fire.
The S3 ticks many boxes but having had a play in the shop I still struggle with the size and the plastic casing. It just feels fragile and not sure about comfy one handed operation.
I had thought the HTC One S was the solution but its flawed as no SD card and you can't remove the battery.

For me the notable improvements are the screen ,camera, call quality, ability to use it in crowded areas(e.g. Amex), battery life, drag and drop sync with laptop, flashplayer. I'm aware that these are things that will probably be improved in the iPhone along with some new revelation in technology, but right now I'm really happy with it. It's worth noting I'm not anti Apple and I loved my iPhone, but right now this beast is brilliant!
I'm sorry, but I'm still not getting the "sooooo much better" that you claimed.
The only one of those that I think the S3 could make very legitimate claims to be better in is the screen, but that is still a matter of personal opinion for many as a lot of folk don't want a screen of that size.
I also note you've excluded build quality, app store, security and manufacturer support - the sort of areas where Apple are significantly ahead of Samsung/Android still. Maybe they are not important to you, but they are to a lot of folk.
I was concerned about this... but have found every app that I use to be available and working well on the S3.

Manufacturer support... well it hasn't broken, yet, so I don't know. My experience with my iPhone was pretty crap, but then I bought it through Carphone Warehouse, so I got what I deserved, I guess!
I got an S3 on release, and love it. Don't have any problem with the size of it at all - fits absolutely fine in pockets for any trousers or coats that I've worn, often can't remember what pocket I put it in as I can't feel it as opposed to my wallet/keys etc.
Very quick & slick. I went for the £36 T-Mobile Full Monty plan, which came with the Galaxy S3 for £50. Having a look now, it's available for £29 on the same plan (unlimited data, unlimited texts, 2000 any network minutes).
Looking forward to Android 4.1 (Jelly) rolling out in the near future on this handset.

It may rival the iPhone 4S, but they are a generation apart. The 4S is a year old so of course the S3 will be potentially better. Comparing the S3 and the iPhone 5 will be fairer, and we all know who will win that...
