They are daft really because a lot of English fans would support Scotland, but now I think that is very much on the decrease. because of their small mindedness.

yep, I think that is certainly true.

Sorry for assuming you were taking the Watford O position - I appreciate how much of an insult that must have seemed to you.

Fair enough on everything else.

The Scottish attitude to the English is worse than the English attitude to the Scots (deeply reprehensible as that often is) - although whether that is true with the Welsh and English is a different matter - but my original point was that the Scottish attitude to the English is NOT worse than the BNP attitude (to everyone else).

Anyway, I am looking forward to a football frenzy on Saturday - all three internationals on the telly, with NSC on the PC during Seagulls v Swindon. A top-drawer day! (as long as everyone I want to win does indeed do so!)

Far be it from me to defend Watford O but even he started the thread with 'sad but true'.

I think most english would support scotland, but that is now changing because of certain groups attitudes towards the english

(Don't know about wales, but i suspect Cardiff is hidden there somewhere and they are all :sheep: )

:lolol:

I always want Wales to win (unless they're playing England), and usually like Scotland to win too (though I don't mind seeing them amusingly stuffed occasionally). But I'd like both of them to get to the Euro finals.

Ireland, on the other hand, can lose every match 6-0, and they'll still be doing too well for me.

Definitely agree with this one. Scotland and Wales are part of the UK. I've never understood why (apart from those with family connections) the BBC and co. expect us to cheer on Ireland rather than say Jamaica, Nigeria, or any other Commonwealth country that has an ethnic community in the UK.

Because they broadcast there - it is Irish fans they are appealing to.

not that I am awre of, although I must have pased through it. I've been to Rothes, mind. Did you live there?

My Uncle & Aunt are "White Highlanders" there. :D

Mind you, being called Anderson helps. The locals were amazed a few years back to find my Scottish accented, Scottish surnamed cousins cheering on England in the internationals !

I don't like to see sweeping generalisations about Scotland and Wales, and I don't see why people have to use the word 'hate'. What happened to friendly rivalry and terrace banter?

As far as I'm concerned when watching Scotland and Wales the English are in a no-lose situation. If they lose it's hilarious, and if they win it sets them up for a bigger fall (hopefully against us a la Euro 96) further down the line.

Myself, I tend to support Scotland but not Wales because I lived in Scotland for 4 years and like the place, people etc. I haven't seen much right with Wales / the Welsh but I wouldn't say I hate them.

And why are we all supposed to like / love/ have a soft spot for the Republic of Ireland?

Your right,you are being sad.

Anyone (outside Italy)who wants them to beat the Welsh needs their head tested.

No, I disagree. I'd rather be an Iti than a celt.

Well no wonder you're a lonely tramp weirdo, walking the streets of Dumptford day in day out, taking comfort in a bottle under a bridge mumbling incoherently to passers by.

And occasionally spending your begging money in internet cafes.

We're not. I live there and they enjoy our demise as much as the welsh and scottish. Slightly off topic but I'm looking forward to the egg chasing world cup and in english sport shops you can buy welsh, irish, aussie, south african etc etc shirts. Here, you can buy all but english. says a lot.

I have an irish father, now live here but always grew up supporting Brighton and England. It has, however, become very fashionable to be a plastic paddy for the last six years and pronounce yourself irish because your granny etc might once have visited the country.

It's their problem, not ours.

It was lovely being here when we thrashed them in the six nations. They were showing old games of irish victories before the game and planned to reschedule national telly that evening 'when' they won.

I'm usually pleased to see Scotland and Wales win. Especially Scotland at the moment as I feel sorry for them. The nation of Dalglish, Baxter, Law, McGrain , Bremner etc reduced to praying for a victory over the Faroe Islands. And I certainly want Wales to beat Italy.

That said I'm really not too fussed, and has been mentioned I think it's only over the last few years that the English have really woken up to the fact of how much the Scots hate us. I watched nearly all of Scotland's games in 1974, 1978 and 1982 in English pubs and every time nearly 100% of the pub were supporting Scotland. That would most definitely not be the case now.

Ireland though I love! C'mon the paddys!!!

Couldn't agree more. I have an Irish grandad (and a Scots granny and a French granny) but I consider myself 100% English. I can't stand these people who have the same ancestry as me but support Ireland (or whoever) because it's far more romantic than boring old England.

Having said that I do see how the Irish and Scottish fans conduct themselves abroad and wish perhaps my parents had impressed their ancestry on me a bit more!
