I’m very uncomfortable with trial by the media. If someone wants to make a complaint, let them go to the police, go through the process. Having a reputation completely wrecked on this way is unacceptable. Same with Schofield. Same with Huw Edwards. Regardless of what they’ve done this country is based on a legal system that is copied throughout the world. Accused should not be named until found guilty by a jury.

Were you more comfortable with what happened with Saville? No investigative journalist’s hunting him down, but plenty of rumours about his abhorrent behaviour and all his victims too scared or traumatised to come forward.

Like Brand, he was an iconic, recognisable celebrity figure who was incredibly rich & powerful with bullying lawyers to match. What would you say to all Saville’s victims who didn’t go to the police?

Maybe a trial by media was exactly what was needed with Saville? Better than the old ***t dying knowing he’d got away with it.

The BBC is " Urgently looking at the issues raised by the allegations "..So, as usual the BBC shites itself over any possible fallout from their time employing Brand....none of the other media entities seem that worried. The poor old BEEB are so scared of upsetting the Tory government and getting another undeserved pasting.

Anyone who employed Brand should take a long hard look at themselves but, only the BBC will.

But these aren't complaints given to the police they are stories told to journalists. The law is still there if the stories are untrue.

It can also be very expensive in this country if you get it wrong.

Incidentally the person in question has been very happy on at least two occasions to publicly name who he has slept with. Oddly directing the comments to their parents or grandparents.

"Accused should not be named until found guilty by a jury" - now there's a leap. Did you mean charged ?

I think you are confusing police investigations and investigative journalism.

Trying to rape his PA, whilst the entourage waited outside hearing the screams. One of whom later apologised to her for not acting. Followed by Brand saying sorry in texts.

The old smooothie.

Two victims of Savile did go to the police. One in Surrey and one in Sussex. The problem was that neither force talked to each other, so there was no pattern to compare, nor known similarities of attack.
easily dismissed as fans complaining.

It clearly states in Dispatches that it was when Brand was 30 so between 2005 and 2006.

It also states that ‘Alice’s’ friend worked in the same building that Brand presented an MTV show from and that is where they met.
So Alice is now 33.

I agree. And yet...

It could be argued to be a legitimate strategy to draw reluctant victims into speaking up.

I just hope the CPS have got it right on this occasion.

Oh. Hang on. It's a newspaper, fishing for money.

As you were. This isn't right.

If it all turns out to be false then there will be no harm done to Brand. He'll write it into his act. So, as I cogitate, yes, perhaps the media splurge, motivated by money-making as it may be notwithstanding, is for the best.
