I enjoyed it too - we'll meet good teams like Brighton this season, and just have to accept they are better than us. Their fans were impressive too.

---

At 3-1 i looked at the ground, pretty full, with full noise from the brighton end and thought my we have come a long way, do you remember that time you and bobos went into the airwair v hayes with your drums, with all 20 of their supporters!

You are right we will have to get used to these results, we just don't have the depth.

To be fair Brighton are a class side,

I thought we played a good game tonight and lost to the better team. Some dodgy decisions but that is nothing unusual nowadays. Can't really fault any of our players however I am still unsure about Kitson. Thought we missed Lowe tonight; we needed some height in the box. Their number 7 (Knight) was lucky to remain on the pitch in my opinion. Good penalty from Gray. All in all an enjoyable match.

I wonder if the sponsors had drunk too much of their product to fail to nominate Jacko as MOM.

I'm still seething to be honest. The referee was appauling at times, the Rodney Jack shot that cannoned off the defender which he gave a goal kick for summed his performance up to a tee - inept bordering on incompetent !! I'd love to see his assessors report - no booking for the penalty either, if it was a penalty (which it was!) it had to be a booking at the very least (my shout was last man and off at the time, but on reflection that might have been harsh, but he had to be booked) !!

I thoroughly enjoyed the match though, Brighton were always going to hit us on the break once we went in search of goals and they did - I don't know about Leon Knight staying on the pitch, Biggy was lucky the ref didn't see what he did in the first half !! I agree, we played some good stuff and even at 2-1 felt we could get back at them - the 3rd goal killed us !! Biggy and Hall linked up well and Millsy worked his rollocks off.

However, that all said, what tonight showed was the frailty of our squad. Our midfield is woefully short of skill and the guile required to unlock defences. Brighton were all at sixes and sevens at the back when we pressured them, but we couldn't do it often enough to make it count.Oh yeah, Brian - drop Kitson now !! I don't know how much he's being paid, but its too much!! Jack and Darby are both support strikers IMO and we miss Lowe dreadfully. Pacy strikers will turn and out strip Edwards at leisure ala Knight, his goal was worth the entrance fee alone to be honest.

I don't want to be a doom and gloom merchant, but I fear we must get used to results like this over the coming weeks. Until we can start to get our first 11 back on the field what we all thought would happen will happen - the fringe players aren't good enough for this level.

I can't see new replacements being drafted in and I look at the next few matches and can't see where the points are going to come from. I enjoyed tonight, but its starting to look a long season ahead. Get well soon Onandi, Burge, Hanlon, Wardley, Duffy - you're needed sooner than later !!

Agree with all three of you. Any neutrals in attendance were treated to a good advert for Division 2 football. Mind you, how Brighton managed to complete the match with eleven (or should that be 12???) men on the pitch is something of a mystery!

Pigman it's still better than playing Hayes on a tuesday night though eh.

At 3-1 i looked at the ground, pretty full, with full noise from the brighton end and thought my we have come a long way, do you remember that time you and bobos went into the airwair v hayes with your drums, with all 20 of their supporters!

To be fair Brighton are a class side, and it showed me Biggy, Edwards, Hally, Bell, Mills and dare i say Darby are average players against the likes of Brighton. However as long as we stay up i'll take that

What are they talking about. Did we kick a few of their players up in the air or something?

Why should Knight have gone off? I didn't see anything untoward last night.

I thought the bloke who stamped on Butters (Jack?) was lucky to stay on though.

Not a bad game of football. Certainly a lesson to be learnt in how to defend, (again!). We showed that we play better "football" without Lowe,BUT lack that cutting edge in front of goal without him.

Leon Knight would be a handful to Prem defenders, ( reminds me of Defoe). Thought the ref seemed a little lenient towards some of the seagulls challenges & was generous with his advantages.

The terrace was quite vocal in the first half & so were the couple of tossers at the back of the Brighton fans baiting the old bill & stewards until they got thrown out!

So just who were those 2 tossers?

I thought for a split second Butters was going to retaliate but he was well restrained.

Same as you I think he should have walked

They were near us. Nothing wrong with what they were doing, they were just singing and started a few songs early doors. They were two blokes who were pissed (like most of us) enjoying a game of football. I think the Rushden fans are stuck in the non leagues, no songs and they didn't really try at all to get any going, shame really taht ground could have a graet atmosphere if both sets of fans sung. Just as well that we sang so well last night.

What did annoy me was the kid with the drum, who incidentally was next to those guys, who not only banged his drum for no raeson but left early. Wanker, he should have stuck it up his arse like we told him to.
