Rushden & Diamonds did their promotion chances no harm as they hit a stunning eight goals to romp to the Blue Square Premier's biggest win of the season.

Defender Jamie Stuart marked his return from injury by heading an early opener, a lead doubled by Max Porter's low shot in first-half injury time.

But Jefferson Louis hit two as Diamonds went goal crazy after the break.

Mark Byrne, Lee Tomlin, Craig Farrell and Simon Downer hit the other goals as Gateshead continued to suffer.

Gutted:( 6 second half goals

I was gunna' back them at the start of the season to go up. 16/1 I think it was, my Rushden supporting mate said "Don't be silly" etc, so I didn't do it. It's now about 5/1, and looking very good.

He said as a compromise, he'd buy me 10 pints if they go up.

Hmm.

They did very well in the BSS but I think the league is a bit to strong for them:down:

They hang just above the relegation zone but I can see them going down

I'd say we're still worth a few quid now.

Although the run in is gonna be bloody hard, with the likes of Oxford, Luton, Wimbledon and Kettering still to play.

Think I might be doing AFC Wimbledon v Rushden. Tomlin won't be around in the summer if Rushden don't go up.

Can't see where this performance came from, saw them take on kettering a couple of weeks ago and thought it was one of the most dire games ive seen all season, and I have been to Withdean a lot this year lol
