I haven't popped out to see but reports are it's going up pretty well.
My flat absolutely reeks of smoke and I'm well over a mile away.

Driving to work in 1998 I witnessed the hotel alight, on that occasion a kitchen flue vent had caught alight starting the fire.

These winds must literally be fanning the flames, hard to see how the fire service can save it.

Firefighters took ages to start putting hoses on it for some reason

Had our wedding reception there :(

Lovely old place, and a great bar for people-watching out the windows.

Watching a video as the roof falls in and only one hosepipe on the building from a single extension ladder on a fire truck. Surely we have more than the one extension ladder.

Seemed to start on floor below. Took a long time for the water to start flowing..

I was passing just as the fire took hold and fire engines arriving. The smoke was incredibly thick and really billowing out. St James Street was a nightmare, Morrisons have shut up shop. Absolutely stink of smoke now

Hope everyone is okay.

A little inland, I live near the Level, you wouldn’t know anything was happening, bar the sirens earlier.

Shit, I love that building. Hope it can be rescued.

Also had the worst experience I’ve ever had in a hotel there one night. Baking hot night in the middle of summer about 2012 I think and their air con was down. It was ridiculously hot, we couldn’t sleep all night, no air at all. Inappropriate to say now but it was like a furnace in there, wierdly hot, never experienced anything like it any country. We had to have cold baths to try and cool down in the middle of the night. They were very good about it though and let everyone have a free stay.

Stayed there once for one night. That was enough.
