I've got to say that Key played one of the best innings' I've seen for a hell of a long time. He played with the assurance of a seasoned test player and looks like he could go on to a huge score if he gets himself back in this morning.
The confidence he has in his shots is quite remarkable and he looked great either side of the wicket. I just hope he can hang onto this form for the remainder of the test series because the West Indian bowlers were 'stumped' for ways to get him out (although he was caught behind early on).

Well played, Robert.

ps He still remains a fat pie eating sad excuse for a cricket player, don't get me wrong.

I agree Chappers

For some reason I have a real problem with Key, something as irrational as that he is a fat, ugly bastard who is a good county player but not good enough to step up to international level

Fair do's he did it yesterday, but wouldn't want to see him in the Ashes team next year

How many times have you seen him play? Do you see him play week-in, week-out? A lot of people rate him very highly, and from what I have read, he was told that he had not missed his chance, but would have to wait for another one.

Let's give the selectors credit for sticking by him. Yes, he is overweight (and no oil painting), but I would rather take the judgement of Duncan Fletcher & co as to who they think should be in the England team.

It's no uncommon for players to struggle when they first experience test cricket. The Aussies have had batsmen that have started badly, but they have persisted with them, and then they have come good.

If you're no good, you can't play the way he played yesterday. However, you can be good and have a bad run of form.

Good posting. I had a big problem with Key but that's because I like to see athletes playing for us, not 'fatties'. Yesterday's performance has completely changed my mind, he actually looked like an athlete when despatching the tosh bowled at him by the bowlers and his played with style and discipline. I'm glad he got a bit of luck with that 'catch' in the slips but everybody needs that and he used it to the full.

Be fair he did go off for a couple of fags (ciggies not... nevermind) @ lunch yesterday, always the sign of a quality sportsman.
Plus the Aussies really rate him, another positive, & think how much that hurts, for them to say.

Is this just me, but when the caption, 1/2 stats & 1/2 face, comes on screen. No matter where I am in the room, he's always staring directly at me. Scarier than the Darleks.

The jury is still out on Key at test level.

In respect of him coming good its possible as don't forget that Graham Gooch bagged a pair on his test debut.

On the other hand the Windies bowling yesterday was by all accounts real buffet style stuff "Help yourself". It reamins to be seen how he fares against quality stuff.

Oh and yeah he is a baby faced fat bastard too!:p

He was dropped by 2nd slip on 16 though - such events can make such a difference!

There's no way he can be dropped if he makes a double-ton. No way at all.

Now then, what a problem for the selectors.

Can't drop Strauss.
Can't drop Vaughan.
Can't drop Key.
Can't drop Freddie.
Four bowlers + wicket keeper.

That leaves Tres, Butch & Thorpe.

Tough call. Most at risk must be Tres.

Yeah Tresco needs to be shown that he can't keep playing ridiculous shots and getting out, he needs to be scoring runs consistently to keep his place.

At the moment I'd line em like this..

Strauss
Vaughan
Butcher
Key
Thorpe
Flintoff
G.Jones
Giles
S.Jones
Hoggard
Grevious Bodily Harmison

Not a bad call that Larus, 'resting' Tres seems the sensible decision

In answer to your question smart-arse, no of course I haven't seen him play week in week out.

However I've seen him play near enough every innings for England and he hasn't looked good enough to step up from good county form to the international stage (Chris Adams, anyone?)

Just a matter of opinions, turning to football, some people on NSC think Nathan Jones is a good player, I happen to think he is shit.....same goes for Robert Key, I just dont think he is international class (hope he proves me wrong, would love to see a strong England cricket team)

What odds he goes on from here to post the world record score?

Can't see it myself, looked a bit dodgy in the 'really nervous 190's'.
He'd be a mess by the 'really really really nervous 390's'. lol
