Sturgeon saying it’s too early to ease lockdown, judging by Scottish figures she could be right, they haven’t come down as much as England/Wales

If you don't think Number 10 is leaking anything to the press, then you're naive.

Boris should not be making statements to the public. The Speaker has already said any statement should be made in Parliament, with proper procedure. Nichola Sturgeon is also stating this.
Accountability.

there's no point making an issue of where or how it is announced. the lockdown was announced on TV wasnt it? the extension was on TV. this is continuation. parliament can discuss the detail and impacts in following days, unless we want a debate and vote?

Interesting that many of the stories refer to the potential for premier league returning at the end of June in this road map

I suspect the restriction will be being allowed out to exercise more than once (which was always a difficult one to Police anyway) and trying to get some shops and workplaces back open.

that sounds about right... and possibly slightly extended family groups.

A lot of any proposed timetable will rest on if there is a rise in coronavirus infections after a couple of weeks of fewer restrictions in place?

Looking at the "sombrero" likely as much virus in circulation now as when we entered lockdown.

My guesses on reopening:

Small shops.
Barbers and salons, only with face masks. Tricky with haircuts!
Households can socialise together, at a maximum of two at a time.
All of construction sector back, if they aren’t already.
Outdoor cafes and restaurant seating, only where sufficient spacing.

Unlikely to matter what BoJo says now. The tabloids have spoken - and as people remember what they were first told, and not the actual detail later, this is what will stick in their minds. And as BoJo's MO is basically 'put something half-arsed out there, see what direction the press and public are going in - then pretend I'm leading on it', then this is probably what he will be doing.

This is too consistent a message from the media to be co-incidental. Not just the tabloids either - Telegraph and Guardian have the same stuff.

It does seem very much like something was leaked to the press to test the water and now they are trying desperately to reign it in

On 23 April 2020 Sturgeon announced Scotland’s blueprint for easing lockdown. Championed by opponents of Johnson at the time as amazing, if only had England announced a blueprint, life would be so much different. But since then, completely parked, as Scotland’s deaths and new cases grow at pace. Sturgeon announced the blueprint at a briefing, not to Scottish politicians.

On 10 May 2020 Johnson will announce England’s blueprint for easing lockdown to a briefing.

What’s the difference?

For seasonal Flu?

I hope this is just the Mirror speculating and not actual government policy.

I read last week that seasonal flu has killed 32,000 people this year and that the flu vaccine was as successful as in previous years, so guessing another serious flu season alongside covid would mean a lot of deaths again.

That’s exactly what the reputable head of CDC said in the USA a couple of weeks ago, about autumn 2020. Trump then tried to get him to say he never said that, in front of the world’s cameras, but the scientist repeated the truth.

The Speaker of the House of Commons stating parliamentary procedure. I don’t know the Scottish procedure.

I mention this because you added Sturgeon into your post, to support the view of the Speaker and yourself.

Sturgeon didn’t practice what she preaches.

I mentioned Sturgeon because she said it herself today. I don’t know parliamentary procedure, but I presumed what the Speaker said was true. After all, he isn’t John Bercow.

I dont much care who announces to whom but the trailing of the likely change before the public holiday was either stupid or deliberately designed to incite people to break the current rules prematurely. Maybe one of the ministers in the lets finish the lockdown quick group thought he could create facts on the ground in spite of the risks.

IMO the lockdown has been unofficially increasingly relaxed over the last week or two. I think this is expected/intentional; I can imagine it would be preferable for changes to be as gradual as possible.
