The manager who discovered Brighton’s greatest ever goalscorer Peter Ward has died at the age of 83.

Ken Gutteridge unearthed Ward during a spell at non league Burton Albion before selling him to the Seagulls for £4,000. Ward, still a firm favourite with Brighton fans, went on to score more than 80 goals for the Seagulls.

Mr Gutteridge followed Ward to the south coast, joining Peter Taylor’s backroom staff at The Goldstone before becoming assistant to Alan Mullery.

He then went on to work at Derby County, Luton Town, Walsall, Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The popular football man passed away in a residential home in Burton after a long illness.

His funeral takes place in Derby at 2pm on Wednesday, August 29.

Oh well, I did click the "check if already posted" button, all it came up with is one thread about Reg Gutteridge. It might have helped if the surname had been used
