First saw him as a very young teenager in Freebie and the Bean and from that discovered Catch-22. He was also the double of my step father of the last 40 years (until he passed 4 years ago) so always loved seeing him in various things. RIP life well lived.

Was also excellent, as expected, in Argo.

I liked him in So I Married an Axe Murderer as a kind and friendly police chief, when Anthony LaPaglia's character wanted an angry shouty one like in the movies.

Bye bye 'Bean'.

Glengarry Glen Ross he is superb underplaying while everything else goes on with the shouty stuff. Makes the film.

'Yeah, Bunch of f***ing nonsense'

Catch 22. My favourite book. I recall seeing him in the film and being slightly disappointed. So I re read the book. Then the recent TV adaptation cMe out - was slightly better but not good enough. Thought the film.was better. rip

He was also in The Return of Captain Invincible, a strange Australian comedy about a washed up superhero which includes Arkin and Christopher Lee singing such as this song which I loved:

West is BEST
Superb actor.
First came to my attention in the 90’s in the unparalleled Glen Garry…

And in So I Married An Axe Murderer.

Which says a lot about the range of the man.

I also like his son, Adam’s acting. Was great in Northern Exposure.

A superbly dignified, talented and underrated actor.

A genuine loss to acting.

WAIT UNTIL DARK
Harry Roat, Jr., from Scarsdale, to Suzy Hendrix: "All the children have gone to bed. Did you know they wanted to kill me? I knew before they did. Now it's topsy-turvy. Me topsy, them turvy."
Who did villainy better than Alan Arkin?
