I don't see what the problem is here, it was a cock up between Manure and the FA, Rio took a tests asap after the initial missed one and was clear, ban him for two years its a f:angry:cking joke, and as for the nonsense at the moment all its doing is fu:angry:king around with Erricson and his plans for Saturdays game in Turkey.

Sometimes the FA can be soo useless !!!

That I didn't know. I thought it was one of those random drug tests and he was just picked. Was it one for the whole squad?

.

It was one for the whole squad. He's made a mistake and looks like he will pay big. Two years?? How long was Davids banned for when he did turn up but FAILED a drug test. Not two years was it?

I remember completing a psycology essay once entiltiled "Moving House is the third Greatest Stressor in Life. Discuss." I can see it all now. The family are moving. He's frigtend to get the Ferrari dented. His other half is nagging, and he knows he has to do something else important that day.

Where in the list did awaiting the outcome of Brighton's managerial merry-go-round come?

And what was number 2?

Too far from the sun
The drugs rules are pretty strict though. At the winter olympics last year Alain Baxter came 3rd in the skiing and failed a drugs test because he'd used a nasal spray - one which had legal contents when sold in the UK but contained tiny amounts of a banned substance in the US. Everyone agreed that he had made an honest mistake but he still had to serve a one year ban and lost his bronze medal. Don't be surprised if Rio gets a long ban. If, on the other hand, he was a USA athlete testing positive in training then I'm sure it would have been swept comprehensively under the carpet....

Long ban? But he hasn't tested postive, he was just late. Edgar Davids was banned for one year, I believe, and he tested positive.

What do you think a long ban should be?

The corner quietly rusting
Man U are consulting Lawyers over a breach of confidentiality over the affair. They is not happy with the FA's handling of it according to sky sports news.

Gordon Taylor of the PFA is upset too:
"There is a due process but they made a decision which I feel is a breach of confidentiality according to their own rules.

"It means they are naming and shaming him and that goes against their own policy."

Apparently, you're not supposed to be named until found guilty.

The BBC say Ferdinand is dropped for the Turkey squad as a result. So he's being punished and England are being punished before going through the process. What happened to the concept of innocent until proven guilty.

Trial by media IMHO.

Taylor also said:
"We have had other instances where a player has not been able to attend and has given valid reasons.

"There has then been a fine and confidentiality has been respected - that is the whole nature of drug testing.

"A meeting had been laid down for next Monday which the club and the player would have attended and following that a decision would be taken as to whether a charge would be made.

"There would then have been a commission and a decision over what type of punishment would be in place, if any.

"Sometimes we get carried away with a particular hype and there is not due consideration in the law."

As posted before though, what if we'd knocked Turkey out, only for them to appeal and get us kicked out for fielding a player on drugs? It could happen.

Good point Hants, although he did test negative, albeit belatedly.

The Turkey game has a bad feel to it. No England fans, rightly or wrongly. Does this not mean Turkey are benefiting from having a reputation in their following? Israel get forced to play at neutral venues because of safety concerns, but I know the scale is very different.

BTW, did you know that Turkey have never scored a goal against England....... more of the same please!

So says you. Why?

Your original quote "so he likes a toot at the weekend, big deal" in itself is harmless to most of us but if it is true, is it the type of attitude and message we should be sending out to the young children who idolise him? It is even more of an impact if the player is with a top club, is the most expensive defender in the country's history and is an England international.

It is common knowledge that certain football players have been known to use stimulants over the years and charlie is the one that continues to pop up along with steroids of various descriptions.

Whilst no accusations have been, or can be, put into print for legal reasons, I can assure you that the reason this has been viewed so seriously is because of the suspicion caused when all your team mates show up for the test and an individual disappears. Are we to believe he couldn't be contacted on his mobile or home phone to call him back for the test?

Unfortunately a feeble excuse has been put forward as to his absence which doesn't stand up to public scrutiny and there is certainly suspicion that he may have taken a toot days before the test and was making doubly sure that he was clean by staying away to make sure any such drug had left his system.

You always know when Man U are banged to rights when they go on the defensive as they are today by claiming unfair treatment by the press. The message from Old Trafford should be one of apology and an immediate enquiry into their own shortcomings in this matter.
