Dear one and all, I am taking Mrs Gloves for a meal next Staurday evening in Brighton. Haven't been to a Brighton restaurant for years. Any suggestions as to a good place, no too fancy or overpriced. We like Chinese, Indian, Italian. Don't want a fish restaurant as I hate the bloody stuff. I appeal to the greater knowledge of all you Brightonians to come up with a good suggestion (not a bag of chips on the pier either)

I thank you.

Jamie Oliver's Italian is good. Food is good, service is good and prices are reasonable.

I say it every time, and I say it again - can't beat Casa Don Carlos, a Spanish tapas house in the Lanes.

Excellent food, good service, friendly, busy, fun. And you'll get change from £40 for a good blow-out.

If this floats your boat, best book up though.

Dont go to the early evening sitting though as you`ll be made to eat your food in 10 minutes. They`ll be whipping away your plates before you`ve finished.

And I always maintain that Al Duomo's by the entrance to the Royal Pavilion can't be beat as a genuine and reasonably-priced Italian.

And don't even contemplate going to Donatellos. They might be Albion sponsors, but you'll be disappointed with that meal.

To be fair, it was pretty good when we took Dick Knight there for the farewell dinner. I enjoyed my meal, it was cooked right and well presented.
Much improved from the time I'd been there before.

Fair enough, but general consensus seems to be that they can raise their game on special Albion occasions. But not heard many good reports from people just wandering in off the street for an Italian meal. Only time I tried, the pizza was a small and cardboardish type thing, the table was cramped and the service a bit rubbish. But apart from that, fine.

Indian Summer is nice, though a tad on the pricey side. Summat a bit different, Indian wise.

Well as Casa Don Carlos and Indian Summer have already been recommended, i'd say Steki on the seafront or Estia in Hampton place are both worth checking out if you like Greek

Days in east street (the old cinema) they do food from many countries buffet style, that way you can Chinese, Indian, Cantonese all in one meal, & yes the food is great.
