Two very good lunch options in Newhaven.

First Mamoosh at Riverside. (Also has an Abyss brewery pop up next door for the summer)
Mamoosh do outstanding pitta and dips at farmers markets at delis but they have a lot of really good breakfast, lunch and cake options at a very reasonable price

Also
L'Isola Buona

Small Italian deli with lots of cheeses, nduja, guincaile, etc to buy but do some good flatbread or focaccias with Italian sausages and some very nice cannoli

I got my comment on Grace Dent's Guardian restaurant review removed yesterday for not following community standards, but not before it had got quite a few likes in just a few minutes. The comment in question? 'The Guardian desperately needs a Jay Rayner replacement now that Grace has all but given up reviewing restaurants outside of London'. I guess they don't like hearing the truth

To be fair to Grace Dent, she's been down to this area far more than Jay Rayner has ever done and in a briefer spell at the helm. Been effusive about Fork, Fourth & Church and Palmito all in the last few years.

Had Sunday lunch in Worthing yesterday, specifically Efe's In Town. What has to be one of the least inspiring menu items Albanian Liver turns out to be absolutely delicious. The fuller description is Pan fried Lamb liver cubes, seasoned with Paprika, Cumin, Salt and flour, served with onion and parsley. This is a seriously good starter.

Plenty of other good options on the menu and decent wine. Efe's ticks a lot of boxes for nice decor, good service and value.

Maybe Grace is caring for a loved one, or looking after her own health, or doing something else that is currently/temporarily at odds with travelling around the country eating nice food. And maybe the Guardian felt that your criticism was unwarranted in circumstances you have no business knowing about?

She’s replacing Gregg Wallace on Masterchef (the celebrity version at least), so filming of that could be one reason.

Criticism that the paper has rarely reviewed a restaurant outside of London since Jay Rayner left, you mean? Other reviewers are available

I think Matt bloody Tebbutt is Gregg's replacement for the next series. I'd rather watch Norman Tebbit.
Say it ain’t so! I’d definitely rather watch Grace.

She must have said no because she’s a diner (like Gregg) and has the charisma and down to earth beliefs in what “good” is to make a tiring franchise still vaguely watchable. And instead we get food’s answer to Jake Humphrey?

Had the same, Arnavut Cigeri at Constantinople in Brighton a few weeks back. It's called Albanian liver but is actually a turkish dish. Who cares ? love a bit of liver

Burgess Hill
Went to Plaza Uno in Burgess Hill last night with friends.

Nice tapas place, when we asked about portion sizes the owner (friendly and funny bloke) said they were generous and not too small.

We had 11 dishes between four of us, all very nice and the portions were on the larger size for tapas. With three puddings, a peppermint team and four drinks the bill came in at £115 which was pretty reasonable.

Definitely one of the better eating options in BH (Yaprak and Buon Appetito being the other two worth visiting).
Agree with all of that. We have had some lovely food at Plaza Uno, a family run place and good value. Buon Appetito has just won some sort of Top 50 pizza places in Europe award which sounds a bit dubious but it’s always been another great family run place.

I went to Buon Appetito in Burgess Hill a few weeks ago and had the pizza there - it was very good but surprised it would be in the top 50 in Europe.
