The Alps in Springtime/Early summer are lovely, decent walks around the lakes too. Warm aswell and the tan knocks up a treat in the high altitude, just as good as the south of France or Spain.

How about some culture? Prague or Barcelona or something

If you want a quiet but luxurious Beach Holiday I can recommend the island of Langkawi, Maylasia.

Very reasonably priced.

or for a more lively break - Spend a few days in New York, drive up to Niagara falls (best on the Canadian side), then on to Toronto.

Too many places to recommend.

My favourite country is Brazil - Rio (the city not the misguided defender) is just fantastic... and if you're missing football you can always watch Flamengo at the Maracana - unbelievable atmosphere. Ihla Grande - about two hours drive south of Rio has some of the best beaches. And then there's Iguassu Falls - a short flight away which are just breathtaking - the second biggest in the world I think in terms of volume.

But, the Far East is good too. At this time of year Thailand is good - it's the change of seasons so one side has monssons but the other is glorious weather. Just avoid Koh Samui - it's very commercial.

A couple of ideas for you - I could go on and on - it really depends on what type of holiday you want.

Have to agree with Canada...mid-May, great time of year to visit, flights and accommodation are reasonable, hardly any tourists, no snow, baseball season underway, NHL in top gear.

Definitely God's country.

Canada is good but truth be told there's not that much to do there apart from admire the scenery.
