You all claim you are a bigger club well that is b******s if you were a bigger club then coppell would be staying...so stop winging about your tin pot club with no stadium.....lol

You will find that coppell knows we are bigger but he doesn't want to wait 2 years or so and thats it.

You offer it on a plate right now and thats that,so you can have him ha ha ha ha.

Of course he is leaving start looking for another manager

He's not gagging to go to you though is he? At best Reading are just another stepping stone and the length of time SC is taking to decide shows that it's not much of a step up from Brighton.

Even with your shiny half empty stadium and sugar daddy.

I can also remember when we took 45 fans to Sunderland for the last away fixture of the 1980/81 season when in the old first divison, needing a win to have any chance of survival, so lets not get too precious about being a 'big' club

Not the real one
The whole situation is very strange. Never quite known this sort of manager tug of war involving the Albion before.

Why did Coppell initially turn down the job on personal terms?
How much more money did Reading have to up the offer by?
If he is going why didn't he just go?
Why are Reading saying manager to be announced tuesday or Wednesday?
Is it because if its Coppell its tuesday and if he turns it down it will be someone else on wednesday?
Surely Coppell would have consulted his mate the Evil Pardew?
Pardew did not get on with Madejski in the last year so would he have recommended the Job to Coppell?
Coppell doesn't get on well with Big for their boots Chairmen, Ron Noads at Brentford for example and walked out on Man City after board room battling, so would he prefer Dick Knight over Madejski?

All these questions, some of which I'm sure we will never know.

I have been thinking the same sort of questions myself, chez and Captain Sensible.

Definitely more questions than answers?

Knight has said he's not prepared to let the Club be destabilised, so he should show some leadership, and tell Coppell to go now.

If Coppell doesn't want to manage the Albion, a club which is a lot bigger than him as an individual, then no self-respecting Brighton fan will want him here any longer.

Key word is if. SC is taking a long time to decide and this can only mean that he is uncertain about leaving us for Reading.

It's not a case of SC not wanting to manage the Albion. He's pursuing his career. Like anyone, he takes the opportunities that present themselves seriously. Who wouldn't? We're only upset because it's the Albion. As the fans, that is our prerogative. But we can't expect Coppell to treat his position as anything more than a job. That's the reality and why should Coppell be any different to 99% of all other football managers?

An ardent City fan recently told me that SC was sh*gging the physios wife up there and as the physio had been there for years and years, the chairman realising that one of them would have to go then gave SC the boot....ALLEGEDLY.

I did point out that SC must be a bit of a charmer as if my memory serves me correctly, he was only there for about 45 days! PLAYER!

Does anyone know what the wife of the Reading physio is like? It could be important :jester:

Based on what's been said, I reckon the deal's been pretty much agreed between Reading and Coppell over the weekend.

They couldn't have announced it yesterday whatever happened because he was off up north for his fitness test.

They may announce it today or tomorrow, but are haggling with Brighton over the compensation details.

Albion are in no hurry to announce Coppell's leaving from our end because they'd like to be well down the road to having a new boss by the time it's official, to sugar the pill for the fans.

All guesswork, but a pretty logical scenario I think.

Here's another slant to the story:-

We know Coppell had an interview two weeks ago. He turned them down.
They have interviewed quite a lot of other people since then. Coppell has had a second interview. Reading haven't actually told Coppell that he has got the job but he is assuming he has because he has turned them down once.

This is why he cannot comment because they haven't made a second offer.

Reading hold a press conference and announce..............someone totally different?

(warning this post may contain traces of irony)
