Dreadful game, one of the worst in what has otherwise been a pretty good World Cup. The Germany v Uruguay game was MUCH better.

Very disappointed with the Dutch who played like a 1970s South American team - bit of skill but mainly relying on the 'dark arts'.

This.

Why are WC finals so dreadful these days? I've seen every final since 1966 and all the finals up to 1986 were good games. 1990's was a shocker, 1994's even worse and after a brief revival in 1998, we've had three more boring finals - last night's was one of the better ones. Exactly what happened between 1986 and 1990 to make WC finals poor?

I dunno. You're right about the 1990 and 1994 finals, arguably the two worst games of football in the history of the sport - last night's was a cracker in comparison.

I'm always reminded of Danny Blanchflower's view of FA Cup finals: "FA Cup finals are great events. The anticipation, Wembley stadium, the marching bands, the presence of royalty, the atmosphere - then the two team come out and spoil it!" He was obviously inferring to the fact that there's so much at stake that a final is rarely a classic, but like you say there's been enough good W.C. finals for that not to apply.

7/10 it was always going be a chess match and never going to be open with lot's of goals, although i saw both teams giving it 120%, Holland didn't deserve the win for there consistent fouling so it ended about right for me.

One foul every three minutes, but the last 50 minutes and the fouls decreased. But by that time I was fed up. 4/10.

Same reason the world cups are not as good. Rather than all about the winning it is now a real fear of losing. Makes teams negative.

Too much pressure perhaps
