I saw him live once, think it was in Jacksonville. Some work (previous job) trip or other, and the tickets were bought for us by the hosts. Wouldn't have been my first choice of gig if I'm honest, but we politely went along. He made a pretty good night of it, and the American audience went wild for him.

Can't believe how many people are confusing him with Bill Medley though. Beach Hut is far from the first I've seen this evening. Bloody Jennifer Warnes and her duets.

Great one here from Mad Dogs and Englishmen in 1970.
Has there ever been a greater dancer at the mic than Joe?
And check out Leon Russell looking totally stoned on the piano

I have no idea why I've never gotten more of his music, because it seems I like all of the stuff he has done that I know about.

I first noticed him singing a cover of the lovin' spoonful's 'summer in the city', before I realised he did 'up where we belong'. Then over time I came to know about his cover of little help with my friends, and you can leave your hat on and so on.

He was also in the beatles-based musical Across The Universe

Great voice, big loss, loved his work over the years.
I saw him not that long ago at a Kings Park open air gig over here.
Voice was as good as ever.
RIP Joe.
