if the audience is a cross section of the Scottish electorate, it sounds like independence is not going to happen!

It's not really entertaining when it's so infuriating. The independence referendum should have some say from our side of the wall as well. Of course, it's ultimately up to them, but it should be clear that, as of the referendum, the Scots should have the same policies on prescriptions, tuition fees and all the rest as England. Why is this such a one-sided argument?

It's pretty annoying listening to the Scots arguing about energy prices when they'll all probably, on average, be hundreds of pounds better off than the English (on the basis that they never paid prescriptions), and if any of them go to uni they will be £27,000 better off. Crazy amounts of money. Tell the to piss off.

Hang on, Edinburgh gets a grant from Westminster that it can spend pretty much as it sees fit. The fact that they've got a better deal on prescriptions and tuition fees isn't "unfair", it's the result of them electing governments that are to the left of the one in Westminster. The SNP would love to have their own tax-raising powers instead but the terms of devolution made this the legal funding arrangement.

So what are you suggesting? That Westminster should dictate to Holyrood how to spend its grant? In which case, isn't that basically a repeal of devolution which would play right into the SNP's hands?

If you're simply jealous of the better deal Scots get from their government, the answer is to vote for parties which share the left-of-centre views of the two that have governed Scotland since devolution.
