Had a ticket to see them supporting Mott in '74 ! The concert was cancelled though due to Ian Hunter being knackered.

Never bothered after that.

I saw Mott the Hoople about then, at the Top Rank. They were alright, I just wanted to hear them play 'Thunderbuck Ram', which of course they did.
I can't remember who supported them then though.

Agree with NMH that only the first three albums are worth listening to.

Live however, few can argue with Freddie's mastery as a crowd-pleasing showman. Always good value.

Especially fond of the Freddie Mercury-penned pianoey ones, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy etc.

They're ok. I remember absolutely loving them when I was twelve, and I went to the Wembley stadium gig in 86, but they're the sort of band you grow out of.

Wouldn't go that far, but I think their pre-80's stuff was possibly their best. Their last couple of albums were getting back to that standard, though.
