That's not a big bet (bigger than your normal by the sounds) just a good one & they may think you have 'info'...if you regularly placed bets of £50 or £100 they wouldn't bat an eye

Yes it was bigger than normal on the account I used, I normally do £5-10 bets but a friend of mine who followed an online tipster has had all but one of his betting accounts 'limited'. His paddy power account got limited to £2 maximum bet. Basically if you beat the books, they will stop you no matter what dirty tricks they use.

I hate going into bookmakers anyway, it's a joke with all the electronic ways of doing it now it just encourages people to get addicted it's the same online mind, I recently placed a bet with 'Betway' won £60 overall tried to withdraw and there's a 48HR pending withdrawal time, how do books get away with that?

yes but betfair are unique as in the fact they are online, they have no fixed overheads ie shops, plus a lot of their money and business is registered overseas for tax reasons, so they can afford a few large losses more often

Betfair is an exchange so cannot really be compared to traditional bookmakers as their profits are mainly commission based.

Betfair aren't a bookies so impossible for them to lose

They now have Betfair Sportsbook which offers fixed odds betting. They are just as bad as other firms at restricting people who don't lose enough.

I actually think he has a perfectly valid campaign and good luck to him.

Every machine makes a profit of £ 900 a week. £ 400m pa for most high street bookmakers.

How many betting shops would be left if FOBTs got banned ? Very few I'd imagine

They were refused introduction in Ireland a few years back (after Paddy Power etc had gone and got power sockets, markings put on the floor, even some bolted down seats in front of an empty space done in loads of branches - all the chains were convinced they were coming) and of the 6 bookies in my large enough town, 3 have closed.

Of those three, one is the Store #1 for a chain based in the town so they won't ever close it unless the entire chain goes and another has, while still open, a for sale sign up for the lease so I suspect its going very soon.

Victor Chandler, Stan James have pulled out entirely and I think William Hill has also - if not they're moving towards the exit door as I've not seen a branch in ages.

So these FOBT machines... They are fixed so the bookmakers will always make a profit? I know in games such as Roulette & Blackjack there is a house advantage obviously but from what's being said I'm assuming it is fixed?

I only ever used one of these machines once, try to stay away from things like that after I got a little hooked on casino games a few years ago.

I have been banned by in excess of 50 different bookmaking chains.. Online and shops. All you have to do is show a consistent profit over a monitored period and they will chop you.... Particularly if you only bet with them when they have the best odds on something... Shows you are no mug. Unfortunately 95% of punters are mugs.... 75% use the same bookie for everything, taking 4/1 when it is 7/1 next door (for example). This is why 95% of punters lose, 4% break even, and less than one percent win consistently over any period of measurement.

The guy on the article describes himself as a professional punter... I suspect that simply means he does his research and only backs with hills when they are out of line.

Sounds a bit like the architype "Pub bore" of the bookies, his comments say as much. A pro gambler would at least shop around for best prices. I told one to shut up about his inside info as none of them won, he wont talk to me now. It depends if he and his cronies are pissing of other punters.

Ive had restrictions placed on a couple of accounts, you just have to spread your stake money about, and not draw attention to yourself.
