Worthing
"Six protesters are attempting to scale the tallest building in western Europe, The Shard.

Greenpeace said it was protesting against Shell's Arctic drilling, which the oil company said was "not new"."

Some of these people are real idiots.

So Shell are drilling in the Arctic? Good. We need more oil. The Arctic is vast and unused. A little bit of drilling is not going to be a problem.

Winner of today's most moronic post award.

There is nothing that is higher in demand in this world - this is why oil companies rule this world, have the power to corrupt world politics, cause and aggravate global conflicts to get even more oil, destroying the environment in the process, and ripping off every single person on this planet by creating an illusion of scarcity to maximise profits and get even more filthy, stinking rich.

It's not a "product" - Apple and Toyota make products. Oil companies just extract a finite natural resource that should by right belong to all of us...

Is rather worryingly.....the right answer.

Yes but I don't see you out there digging it up... They are providing a service that has a high start up cost which means there are more barriers to entry in the market which causes an oligopoly which causes high prices which create high profits for the person providing the service. Welcome to Macroeconomics 101...

Yeah, those poor oil companies having to deal with such impudence. They should be free to do exactly as they wish without having to deal with all this nonsense. What's Big Oil ever done to these Greenpeace types?

Actually consumers rule the world. People like you. You consume.

If you stop consuming their products/services they cease to operate.

Yet there you are at your computer, utilizing their technologies and products.

Hilarious.

There is the beauty of the situation which they have colluded and connived to create.

And your solution to this problem is?

We need oil and as things stand the present arrangement appears to be the best there is. If you have a better (and practical) idea I suggest you start a campaign to have things changed.

Petrol companies have done a very good job of stalling the development of cars that use alternative methods of propulsion over the years. This is a great example of their manipulation of patents and government policy.
