[Football] Proposal to allow alcohol in the stands

2. The new thing of luzzing beer in the air is crap.

You'd think all of us hate that, yet so many people do it. Awful habit.

But would it be beyond the wit of man to have that banned in the stands, with decent punishments? Maybe if people could bring their drink back to their seat they'd actually be able to get back in time for the second half.

They could also stop sales once the game is playing, to stop people going back and forth.

Simple solution to that. You can only bring one drink into the stand. Your mates will have to get their own if they want to bring it in. No drinks brought in when the whistle blows for each half.

I needed you in Rome man. It would have saved me from a long tedious walk in the opposite direction from the Coaches afterwards.

I would refer you to Ajax away, which clearly showed we have too many dickheads to allow alcohol in the stands.

Drinking beer should be able in the stands, but the purchase of it during the 90 minutes, no. To me I don't see a problem with buying a drink as the first/second half starts, but not having a constant supply throughout.

Decent compromise that, because, like others, my two objections would be...

- The constant procession of people heading to get beers
- Luzzing

I'm not sure much can be done about the latter - luzzers gotta luzz - other than club punishment/bans. I guess the message would be understood after a period of people getting pissed off with getting wet through with beer.

The funny thing about this is - have any of us been to Albion games (in the UK) where we could drink and alcohol was available? I was a season ticket holder at the Goldstone pre-booze ban in 1985. I was too young to drink, but I have no recollection of other people drinking. Beverages didn't seem to get any stronger than Bovril

This shouldn't even be a thing. People should be able to enjoy a drink without lobbing it around and the club would be clear that throwing beer is the same as throwing anything. You're getting banned if you do. I would be amazed if there was a beer lobbing culture at Brighton

As for the getting up and down more. Well maybe. But I don't think it's a big enough reason to prevent people living their lives the way they want to and the club making a bit more money

Yup, this is one thing on which I have completely changed my mind on. When it came in I thought it was a stupid, anti-football rule brought in by Thatcher as part of her war on the working class. Why couldn't we have a drink in view of the pitch like rugby fans? Stupid, petty and vindictive I thought. Same as all-seater stadia.

Fast forward forty years and, unlike all-seater stadia, this is one rule I wouldn't want changed. If you can guarantee that there will be absolutely no accidental beer spillage, no beer luzzing when goals are scored, and no people going to and from the bar, then fine, If you really can't go forty five minutes without a beer then I guess you can change the rule. If you can't then keep it as it is.

And if that makes me a grumpy old man then fine, I'm happy with that moniker.

If beer luzzing like in the away Euro games became a thing at away games in the UK I’d probably stop going. Anyone doing it is a bellend.

It doesn't seem to create a problem not having beer in the stands, and the voices asking for it don't seem especially loud anywhere at all so it feels to me like a potential outlet for another culture-war nonsense argument with outrage over something that's barely even registered as a matter of debate for a long time until someone realises it's another way of pretending things used to be better in the mythical past before "change".

I should add that I like a beer when I go and watch Brackley but there are small crowds and you can walk around and stand in the sunshine later in the season. There is luzzing by the yoof in the main stand so nursing my bonce I hid away from those idiots so I didn’t get covered when we won the league.

I don’t want drinking at the prem with all seated and so many peoples.

It would definitely be a problem. When I've watched games with a pint, I'm consistently having to pick it up/put it down as you surely don't want to be holding a pint when you are celebrating - as it's definitely making a mess.

Absolutely no. I remember Barber talking about this on Albion Roar a few years ago and he was very much against it then….hopefully be still is.

Having gone to Eubank - Benn at Tottenham… I cannot think of any reason why drinking in the stands should be allowed.

Not that I expect many on here will consider it but there are plenty of people from other cultures, creeds or have other issues with alcohol (not to mention parents with kids) where having beer (or indeed any alcohol) thrown over them would be a complete No for all manner of reasons and effectively would bar them from attending the games to avoid even the risk of it. Absolutely No and should forever be No.

If you cannot survive 45 minutes without alcohol then you have a serious problem and should seek urgent medical help.

It’s the luzzing I have the issue with now we have moved to the north of my daughter got hit I can assure the culprit wouldn’t be enjoying a pint for a long time

Definitely no as some idiots are going to throw it, some will definitely spill it but the main reason is the up and down to the concourse when the match is on.
