This morning on radio 5 they had someone championing the idea of allowing drinking in the stands. What is your view on this? For what it is worth I think it is a dreadful idea for many reasons but my top two would be

1. I hate going to rugby and have stopped because I get fed up with people going to the bar all the time and spilling beer on me on the way back. I don’t want to miss a goal with someone going to the bar past me.

2. The new thing of luzzing beer in the air is crap. Crucial late goal and pints will be chucked in the air. It takes me three hours to get home from the Amex and I don’t want to be covered in beer for that thanks.

Maybe I am just a grumpy sod

What do others think?

I completely agree with you, and while that might make both of us miserable curmudgeons, so be it. I was desperate for match pints when i was 20-odd but now i welcome the chance for people to sober up a bit, cos of the risk of nonsense/violence/vomit/thrown pints/everything.
Or do what Germany does, sell pints at 0.0%, and dont tell anyone theyre on the alcohol free

I agree. I like a beer at the football, but two 45 minute breaks from beer is a good thing IMO. People who can't deal with that have an issue.

On that subject, I went for a piss at half-time of the Extra Time in the Forest cup game, and people were ordering beers. I find that astonishing... Fifteen minutes left of such a big game, and people decided having a pint was more important. BAFFLING

No,no,no

The modern phenomenon of luzzing beer in the air would just mean we all get covered in beer at some point. I love a beer but I can go without for a game of football.

I don't think it will ever happen but if it does at least keep some areas pint free. Cricket is starting to introduce such areas which is no bad thing.

100%. No need to have alcohol in the stands - Messy and potentially dangerous as well.

Only possibility would be to have an allocated bar/restaurant section in the stand(s) where you are allowed to buy drinks, drink and watch the game simultaneously, but I don't think realistically the Amex is able to accommodate such thing. I know some stadiums in Europe have that and it seems to work over there.

Should be a good idea but far too many people who pine for the glory days of football where you throw beer and light fireworks or you can't enjoy yourself - despite this never having happened. Also, it would need cup holders at every seat or it would be carnage. I rarely take a water or coffee to my seat as you either hold it all the time or put in under your seat with the risk of having to stand up to let people past every time and flooding the aisle with spilt liquid. We as football supporters don't deserve to have nice things.

Drinking beer should be able in the stands, but the purchase of it during the 90 minutes, no. To me I don't see a problem with buying a drink as the first/second half starts, but not having a constant supply throughout.
Yeah, that's a good compromise. But, also, looking forward to seeing the lads wobbling to their seats with 4 pints balanced on top of each other.

I like to think I can drink responsibly these days, but as soon as I saw those lads selling beers in Rome, I somehow ended up juggling carlsbergs up the steps.

'Are you buying 4 drinks for your freinds?'

'Erm. Yeah. Why not, let's go with that'

Excellent idea. We can take beer into the stands in Austria and I've never seen a beer luzzed. There's enough cameras in grounds, so if anyone luzzes a beer they should be banned.

Agree, although only if there was a corresponding rule banning people from ordering six pints of Guinness at 14:59

Simple solution to that. You can only bring one drink into the stand. Your mates will have to get their own if they want to bring it in. No drinks brought in when the whistle blows for each half.
