Am I the only one who opened this thinking, that's mighty impressive for a 14yr old trialist?

Edit RIP Prof ..... And I love the last line in The Argus article.

He wrote to us in the late 80s about blood potassium and sudden cardiac death. I sent him a research paper of mine which shows that potassium protects the heart's electrical stability. Sadly I'm not sure he quite engaged with this. I have taken potassium supplements for 10 years (mainly to ward off cramp, but heart electrical storm is a bit like cramp of the heart) and am the longest living male in my family's known history. My dad died of sudden cardiac death age 62. DC was pivotal in out of hospital defibrillation (DC, not AC?), with one of the first defibrillators set up in Brighton station. RIP. Thanks for posting @AZ Gull

A true pioneer. In the late 1970s Prof Chamberlain championed the introduction of a paramedic-style response scheme, the provision of defibs and the 'Heartguard' training scheme for other emergency service workers to learn CPR. Brighton was at the forefront for this approach in the UK.

I truly wonder how many lives were saved over the subsequent timescale.

I see that Professor Douglas Chamberlain has recently passed away at the age of 94.

Probably not a name well-known to many Albion fans, but as well as being regarded as the father of paramedic medicine he initiated a ground-breaking trial of automated defibrillators at the Goldstone Ground in the late 1970's.

I remember the Heartguard training very well - it made a huge difference to us as responders, gave us a lot of confidence, and we used the system many times.
He was very well respected by the emergency workers in Brighton / Sussex.
A good life, in my opinion.
