There's a weird letter in the latest issue of Private Eye. It's from a NIMBY who admits that the ground is not next to the village and that the land between the stadium and Brighton is undeveloped...and then goes off on one about a shopping centre stretching out to Woodingdean.

Total nutter.

From the latest Private Eye's "Nooks and Corners"...take a deep breath before reading on. Personally, I've always found Ian Hislop to be a geeky and repulsive little snob, as well as one of those hairy objects found at the top of women's legs. This only confirms it:

"Talking of our beloved DPM, it is not just the North that is suffering from his blinkered adherence to destructive and outdated planning policies[...] A measure of his department's skill is that it has just decided to allow the building of a 23,000-seater football stadium in Village Way, Falmer, Sussex, even though it means a huge overweening structure, with attendant nuisances and traffic, will now rise in the Sussex Downs area of outstanding natural beauty.

Brighton 'n' [sic] Hove Albion FC had sold its old stadium in 1997 to make a killing, despite not having anywhere permanent to go, which was a little foolish. The Falmer proposal was made in 2001 and opposed by Lewes District Council as well as by the unfortunate village. Well, too bad."

Just wait til they get to work on how Prescott had tea'n'sandwiches at the Hull match...

Not forgetting this.....

Rotten Borough Awards 2005, latest edition

"prizes were held this year in the Poulson Suite at the new Prescott Soccerama Dome and Retail Park, Sussex (formerly 'the South Downs')."

Who said that the bloke who edits Rotten Boroughs lives down the road?

Is this the same person who wrote the piece about JP and the hospitatlity at Withdean in The Daily Telgraph under the name Charles Clover.

Unsure about Nook and Corners. Rotten Boroughs which has always been very anti Brighton and Hove council is edited by one Ian Minogue....A resident of Lewes and anti Falmer nimby. Private Eye is notorious for it's poor research. That's why it's been sued so much over the years! That article is predictable but nothing to lose any sleep over.

Tim, actually. There have been two sensible pro-stadium letters in the Eye in the last two issues; countering the smeggy hogwash in Nooks and Corners and Rotten Boroughs.

I too think we should not lose any more sleep over Private Eye. They'll no doubt have a go again given Minogue's bias; but as other scandals are uncovered, will move on to them; its not as though they are short of choice!

Actually, Private Eye hasn't been sued that much over the years: it gets a lot more right than it gets wrong.

But obviously not in this case.
