Seems slightly surprising that the champions of 4 day domestic cricket now supply exactly zero players to the test squad. Must surely improve our chances of retaining the title this year?

Yes indeed, that and our near-Saharan weather patterns.

Not surprised Prior got dropped as he aint the bets keeper i've seen! remember Chris Adams in an interview last year when questioned about how good Hodd is and what if Prior comes back "the positions Priors without a doubt" was his response...or something very similar so dont quote that. But that was half-way through the season I think.

As for Strauss....his time to prove it now, screw up and thats it.

Luke Wright, congrats but dont think he really did enough last year at International (from memory) so maybe they do see the future in him, hope he bags a few decent scores.

I think they were always likely to recall Strauss for this series, partly they wanted him to have a break and partly they need to justify his central contract.

But we shouldn't be picking players solely because they've got a contract. Strauss in form is an asset to the side but he's not been in form for over a year, and a complete lack of first class cricket in the five months preceding a test series isn't going to help him return to his best.

Strauss's fielding is top-class though and England were shoddy throughout the SL tour. That could have had some bearing on his selection.

you should never pick players based on their fielding attributes IMO
